There are more "D"'s than "R"s

All we need is to have a Dr. Paul debate the democrats, and we will win.

Never happened before...

I was thinking that until I remembered this is a primary. The majority of voters stay home during state primaries.

WAY more voters for Conway than Rand......

Way more Dems than GOP......

Kentuckians, is this usual?

It's a family thing, really. Back in the day there was no republican party in KY. If you wanted to vote in the primary, you had to be a demorcat. Most people haven't changed their registration. This state consistently votes for Republicans, but that doesn't mean we don't have our work cut out for us. Just don't pay any attention to the number of voters in the democratic primary.

My grandmother called me yesterday and asked why she couldn't vote for Rand Paul. I had to explain to her that she was a registered democrat and that we have a closed primary system. There are thousands of little old ladies across the state just like her.

People many of the democrats vote rep. McCain won with 57% and I believe bush won with upper 50s as well, both times.

I asked my 79 year old grandfather today if he voted for Rand. He said "no" because he was still registered as a Democrat. I was shocked. For as long as I've been cognizant he's been very much a conservative Republican.

dont sweat it...

KY is a solid GOP state (Bunning, McConnell)....voter registration means nothing in national elections......

Obama cant even carry Democrats in liberal Massachussetts and New Jersey....aint no way Conway will win in a GOP state in an anti-Obama mode.

Looks like the more liberal candidate (Conway) will win in Kentucky. I don't know for sure if he's the more liberal candidate, but since Kos is rooting for him, he must be. The more conservative candidate (Mongiardo) lost. Much of his support will go to Paul. Also, independents will vote Paul. I bet Obama's approval ratings in KY are in the toilet.

Since Kentucky is a closed primary, you can only vote for your registered party's election in the primary. After the Civil War, Kentucky became part of the straight ticket Democrat South. Not until the 1960's / 1970's did Kentucky start trending Republican. The reason there are still more registered Dems is that most primaries are uncontested on the Republican side and most state / local candidates run as Democrats. If you want your vote to mean anything in the primary, you usually need to be a Democrat here.

This is nothing new.
This is nothing to fear.

Rand will be fine in November.

I think it is safe to say that Rand will pull in a lot of Dr. Dan's voters.

For one thing, Conway was the only pro-choice candidate. I know that isn't what Dr. Paul wants to make the campaign about, but KY is a pro-life state IIRC.

Rand's key to success here in November: make the election a referendum on Obama. He'll win easy.

Not that it's a big issue in KY, other than in liberal college towns and urban jungles, but the revamped chatter about a progressive-libertarian antiwar alliance could help us win Democrats' votes.
