if you define fascism as 'big government in bed with big business' or as Mussolini put it 'corporatism', then Obama certainly fits the bill. He has not outrightly nationalized the bailed out companies. Rather, he has allowed those sectors of the eonomy to author the federal bailouts in a trade for more federal regulation.

Add in his refusal to corral the police state and it is not unfair to call him a fascist.

The strong-arming that obviously led up to the Chrysler deal will also be typical of the Obama industrial policy. While terrorists need not fear any violation of their constitutional rights, CEOs of Fortune 500 companies will not be so fortunate.

At the core of the new policy will be the simple assumption that Washington knows best.



This is not a case of government owning business (socialism) it is a case of the government *controlling* business - beating it with a big stick to keep it in line.

IMHO, that makes the term "fascist" quite fitting.

The term fascism needs to undergo a renaissance. It's so broadly applicable to government today. Yet I suspect that it will not be applied except by people looking back in hindsight; for some reason people resist mightily the concept that they could be living in a 'fascist' society.
