The trade wars have begun:

Yeah it doesn't exist now because greedy governments and their special interests like to get their hands in it to unfairly tip things in their favor through the force of law. And it doesn't help that the widespread economic ignorance of the masses go along with it because they don't know any better. Hopefully this will change one day and we actually get free trade.
If we managed to get ideal free trade here, we would never get it in the other countries, and they would rip us off as they have for generations now.
It would also be destructive and facilitate globalism if we got it world wide.

LOL no... it won't. Free trade is good for all... if we could ever get it. Why do you think the government should manage all private transactions?
It absolutely would, and foreign trade is not "all private transactions", nor am I calling for government to manage trade transactions, just to tax them to relieve the tax burden on our citizens and to protect our independence, liberty, and prosperity.

Resorting to false accusations won't help you.

Tariffs by themselves are bad as they make things more costly. I think the tariff on Mexico makes more sense than the one on Canada. What you can achieve with a tariff is an equal playing field, in the specific example of China, one where government subsidies, lack of environmental regulations, lack of interest in human rights etc. etc. are compensated by artificially increasing the prices of Chines products to the level they would be had it been produced locally. It makes total sense in the case of China as they are actively using this to gain more power over the world.
Canada has long had extreme tariffs on us, and they have been facilitating illegal migration across our northern border and all manner of other cross border crimes, along with conspiring with China to weaken us.

Tariff proponents tend to be economic illiterate nationalists-populists . One could make a case sort economic war against a foreign adversary (China ) on some national security grounds but here we are talking about defending high tarifs and autarky as a general economic policy and that would make everyone poorer , period .
The world is on notice of how unreliable the US is , this will hurt the US brand and strategically weaken it bis a bis China

Free traders are the economic illiterates who ignore history and logic in favor of theoretical dogma.

You think it's the governments job to manage the economy?

Trump is playing chess with Chy-na. Canada and Mexico are pawns. Mexican exports to the US are 35% of their GPD, Canada's are 22% of theirs. They will capitulate in weeks, if not days.

And there we have it. This wasn't about fentanyl, it was about dominance. It took 3 days for the northern and southern Leftists to kiss his fat orange ass.

Under budget and ahead of schedule! They will comply or be destroyed economically. They need us far more than we need them. It's amazing how many on this forum still have no idea what's going on.
