The Revolution Begins: Maryland house candidate runs as a "Ron Paul Republican"

Rep. Albert R. Wynn (D) is the incumbent. That's right next to my district. I think Wynn is beatable. However, I did not notice Mr. Peter James on the Candidate List.

I've though about running in my district (8th Congressional District), however it is extremely competitive requiring 3,645 signatures, and strong grassroots backing. Not to mention Rep. Christopher Van Hollen (D) would be very tough to unseat since there is a heavily Democratic spur in Montgomery County. Not to mention he's been serving since 2003 (I was serving in Iraq with 1st Marine Division 1st MEF 15th MEU back then.) Incidentally, he was born in Karachi, Pakistan. Pretty interesting because he's a white guy.

Ron Paul Republican --- I like it! :D

A win is extremely unlikely in a district that votes 80-20. Too many people look no further than the letter next to the name.

Well, you should not be discouraged by the odds. Anything is possible. If you have a strong message that is sincere and a solid record to back it up people will eventually come around. Always stay positive. Just look at Congressman Ron Paul and how he is able to connect with people from all walks of life.

We should encourage him in his race, but our money is better spent in a more competitive district.

Thats because Maryland is a state where Dems outnumber Republicans close to 3 to 1. The only two districts Republicans have a chance are in the 6th district which encompasses western Maryland (but sadly now it also included parts of Baltimore and Montgomery Counties also). The Southern Maryland district also has many Republicans. Besides those two districts most of Maryland's congressman are democrats and they have an easy time winning at that. Also incumbents win 80-90% of the time.

Is he really a Ron Paul Republican or is he using the Ron Paul name to further his campaign? I'm kind of curious.

Yes, he really is a Ron Paul Republican. I met him several months ago at a meetup. He is a hard money guy, which at the time I met him I though was a bit fringe, but I've been listening to what Ron Paul has to say and monetary policy is now becoming more important to me than the war.

I'm in Maryland's 8th district. Our own Robatsu is running for the Chris Van Hollen's seat.

See, this is where the grassroots can come into play. Someone can volunteer to donate the website design. It would likely end up as their 'donation', but, it could greatly help the others. Also, maybe one of our gurus could design a template site that could easily be modified by any Ron Paulitician.

That is a great idea... does anyone want to build one or is there already one in existence? Perhaps the official campaign can get involved in this (unless that goes against some sort of FEC regulation)

Posters here question whether I am a true Ron Paul Republican. They also question whether I can win.

Check the FEC website I maxed out my contribution well before I decided to run for Congress. I was a Ron Paul delegate and got 3 times the vote of other Ron Paul delegates. Go to me website and check out my issues do they match ROn Paul's.

Can I win? I am running in an open seat NO INCUMBENT ! There are more Democrats and independent voters in our meetups than republicans. Ron Paul does better in blue states.

At least 40% of the Democrats in my district are conservative. I am running against and ultra liberal "Progressive"(socialist) democrat. I can easily pull 30% of Democrats there 50K undeclared voters.

I was out spent by a machine Republican by 2.5 times and won handly even though another Ron Paul candidate pulled 22% of the vote from me.

My democratic opponent received her highest precentage in the same precincts I received my highest totals. So her vote was anti incumbent not a vote for her. In fact she has said very little about what she stands for.

I can and will win if I can raise a decent amount of money from Ron Paul supporters.

My distirct borders washington DC. By winning this District, we can but fear into the minds of every member of Congress.

Please send me a check.

There are other Ron Paul republicans sprouting up all over the US. Many of them are RP Supporters who are so moved by him and realizing if RP gets into office he'll need some help in congress, they are running for positions.

There was a site at one point with a list of Ron Paul Republicans running in their local districts.

This movement goes way beyond just this election. If we can get more of these individuals into office we can substantially change this country in the longterm.

I am a Ron Paul Republican from Yorktown, VA.
I am active in my local Republican Committee. I am a Ron Paul Republican.

Nice! I'm nearby in Wmburg. Are you running for anything? We desperately need someone to run for the 1st District!

I made a last minute attempt at running for the York Board of Supervisors. I am not sure that I am ready for the 1st congressional house just yet. It's still too early to judge Rob Wittman just yet, however I am discouarged that he thinks the U.S. helping maintain a free and independent Israel is a top foreign policy issue.

I also am concerned that he chose to ask for a primary rather than a convention as his nominating process. After some mild debate, the First District Congressional Committee voted in favor of granting him his request for a primary. Apparently, his beltway campaign consultants and RNC brass advised him that he needed a primary to allow him to raise the maximum amount of campaign finance contributions so that he can keep pace with any potential democratic challenger.

I would like to run someday, but I do wonder if I would have what it takes to be effective and successful.
