The Reluctant Case for Trump

Trump is not a deal maker, I actually think he could ruin our deals that we have right now by pissing people off. This is where I am truly scared of a Trump presidency, because the economic collapse is near and he wants to bring back the 20th century rules of war.

I think that would be pretty bad scenario, think of all of the people we have on social security and unemployed. If Trump detached the dollar from the world reserve then all of our "safety net" programs crash with it. Our country would have similar poverty levels as Mexico over night.

Add a trade war with China (if not a cold war or even a hot war), retaliation terrorism throughout the US, an overweening security state with more cameras per square foot than the UK has ever dreamed of, bans on any technology not pigeonholed by the NSA, insults to the President treated as a felony, prison camps full of Arabs and Persians, bans on certain anti-state religious thoughts, and so much more, and you begin to get an idea of what this guy looks like to me.
 
Great thread with lots to think about (and have been pondering actually).

Rand Paul in the primary is a no brainer to me - the bigger the number, the bigger the impact on future policies!

Having said all that, and I know this group is not big on moral values, but I believe moral values matter and our nation is under judgement already with no good options because of that. I suggest repentance and prayer like never before. See II Chronicles 7:14

I believe that our government is a reflection of our hearts and that is not a pretty picture. I believe our government will change when we do. May it be so in our lifetime or at least may we have done all we could to make it so!
 
Here's why I now want Trump to win: they're all clowns who will hurt America and America's standing in the world, but at least Trump is a funny one.

His election would shine a bright light on the absurdity of government in general, and the stupidity of the American voter in particular. Oh, and it would also usher in an era of so much winning that we would all get tired of winning. And an era in which Mexico paid for a great wall. So that's cool.
 
It's hard to look at Trump's work ethic and habits and not be impressed. He might be a rich, white collar guy, but he works like every dollar depends on him. He also understands what crushing debt can do. Of all the candidates, he's the one who could look at a page of the budget and see where the problems are. He has quite a few problematic positions, but they are on issues where Congress would provide the balance of power. The rest of the field also have problematic positions, and Congress has failed to address those issues. Maybe with different leadership, they would. Frankly, Cruz and Rubio have failed to get the Senate on board with them, so that tells me a lot. Trump deserves some credit for shutting Lindsay Graham up and helping cull the rest of the field.

The longer he stays in, the more the RNC will have to see that the conservative voter is up to here with the status quo. They will have to change or have Trump as leader of the party.

We have not yet determined who will get our primary votes. The choices are very slim at this point.

Trump cited that the military budget will not be increased, but rather that sizable savings could be found internally. He didn't turn and run like Ted Cruz did with the sequester once the SC warhawks started pounding him.

What deals? You mean those unfair trade agreements starting with NAFTA on? Perot said that if we passed that, it would be like a giant flushing sound as jobs and companies left the U.S. Perot was right. We would be better off getting out of all of them. At the bare minimum, they need to be renegotiated.

So, does this mean that you're fine with the Federal Reserve's devaluation of the U.S. dollar and all the other crap they do? Is Keynesian economics just dandy for you?

The one over-riding positive I see from Trump is, he doesn't seem to want America to continue charging around the world making war and declaring everyone to be an enemy.

He says that he can work with Putin. I believe that a loose alliance between America and Russia would be very easy to achieve and to the benefit of both countries.

Trump talks very tough about Iran because he has to to placate the peanut gallery. But unlike the other candidates, he doesn't say that he'll tear up the current agreement between Iran and The U.S.A. He states that he will re-negotiate it.

He has publicly stated that the Iraq war was based on lies and that it has served to destabilize the entire Middle East.

Trump talks very militant at times because that's what a large part of the GOP base wants to hear. But you have to listen closely to him. He says that he'll make our military so strong that we won't have to use it.

I truly believe that Trump has watched the actions of the neocons over the past decade and understands that it needs to be stopped. And I also believe that that is the reason that the neocons are attacking him so hard.

He's definitely not a libertarian. But at this time he's the only shot America has at dialing back the lunacy that the neocons have unleashed on the country.
 
Nobody in this race has a perfect issues set.

And how much worse than Obama can Trump be? Talk about a screw up. Obama definitely.
