The real reason the "surge" is working

They are revolting against the Al Qaeda and making a temporary partnership of convinience with the US. They still want the US out and they said they will go after the US after dealing with Al Qaeda.

They want their independence, that's it. No US, not Al Qaeda.

The Shiite are anti-Al Queda b/c Al Queda is a Sunni operation. We are paying off the sunni insurgents AKA Al Queda to guard street corners in sunni neighborhoods to try to stop violence from shiites AKA Iranian special forces. It is rediculous; the US GOV is now making payments to Al Queda to not attack us.. please read the article.

The reason it is working is because its not? Less than half of the political goals have been met and until they do no one wants the US out.

I should have been more clear. It is working at reducing violence... Because we are buying peace for now.

2007 was the most deadly year on record for US troops in Iraq. The surge is complete fail.

It makes no sense, from and U.S. and Al Qaida point of view, to ally with each other. I think there is something wrong in that article, or at least unexplained.

Look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZhKnUYABTI

You have to differentiate between insurgents and Al Qaida terrorists.

Did you read the article? These are the people we are paying. The video says the exact same thing as the NPR article. They are no longer allied with Al Qaida because WE ARE PAYING THEM OFF!!!!!

wouldnt this make a great section of a double talk express ad against mccain and all

would make a super duper tv ad against all the other republicans for being in iraq...

We either bomb them or we subsidize(bribe them)

Don't you love when people comment and it is clear they didn't even read the article?

We are paying $70,000 per day for things to calm down so Bush and neocons can claim the surge is working. I am sure the Sunni's are reinvesting every penny we pay them so they will be that much better armed when fighting resumes.

It is just like we always do over there, arm/supply our enemies.

this just shows that the best way to defeat Al Qaeda would be to withdraw. The majority of Iraqis: Sunni/Shiite/Kurd/Arab, despise Al Qaeda for ripping the country apart. The one thing they have going for them is an occupying prescence. Al Qaeda will be slaughtered by the rest of the insurgency when we leave (its already happening now.) But our prescence accomplishes nothing.

absolutely..Blowback is a..coming!

Absolutely smells like blowback a coming...what stupid idiots we have in leadership...

What arrogance. These boys should be brought home now then and let them keep paying them off for several years.

We dont need to be there in that case!

We can come home tomorrow.

The surge is working for the same reason that a classroom full of unruly kids is more orderly when the teacher is in the room. As soon as she turns her back or leaves the room chaos resumes. We are temporarily band-aiding the problem at great expense to the American taxpayer and great profit to the military industrial complex. The war is nothing more than a way for todays government to extort money from tomorrow's taxpayers.

No one can know if the war in Iraq will end up as a positive or a negative. For all we know in a decade President Bush could be considered the greatest leader in the history of the world, and the father of "world peace" because of the Iraq war. Or the entire world could be on nuclear fire...

The surge worked, for whatever reason there is more stability in Iraq. Good for us and for Iraq.

(1) I believe President Bush is honest and is following the path he believes is the right path,
(2) the war in Iraq will probably have both positive and negative sideaffects,
(3) the job of President of the United States is not an easy one, and it is silly for us to sit here and trash President Bush. Instead give him praise for all the good he has done, and respectfully question the decisions you don't agree with.

YOU CAN"T BUY OFF AL QAEDA!!! We are not buying off the insurgents, either. Something isn't right with the report. They have allied themselves with us for now, because of a common enemy (al qaeda) and we are providing assistance. The insurgents still want the U.S. out, but are willing to fight together for now. We might have corrupted them with money but that's not the point.

You have to differentiate between Al Qaeda and Iraqi Insurgents. The Iraqis hate Al Qaeda and they hate U.S. presence.

Did you even pay attention to the video??? Listen to it between between 50sec and 1min.

Not to mention that Mushareff<sp has prohibited U.S. troops from operating in the NW regions of Pakistan where Osama and Al Queda are believed to be hiding. Does this mean he is giving them safe haven? I don't know, but the fact that we send millions of our dollars to this man and we get this in return is not a good sign. Yet another reason among many to leave.

Hey dudes. I thought the real reason why the "surge" is working is because the MSM tells us its working.

Um... please tell me that was /sarcasm... thx.
If not...
1st: Tell me 3 instances of good he has done.
2nd: How will invading a foreign country wich never would have posed a threat for the next 10 years to a United States more worried about Internal Defense and not Preventive-Invasion Defense EVER be harold in as a example of the greatest move for world peace? The spin on that would be so outragously dilluted even the sheeple could see through it. (Unless your talking about 15 years from now, when the books all say false propaganda, like alot of them do about previous wars (*cough* civil war *cough*), in which case, yes, it might be.
Thanks agian.
