The real reason only 10k voters out of 22 that pledged is we are appealing to the wrong people.

13 year olds can't vote, and they comprise 85% of the internet!

Ok, well maybe not 85% but most of the people on the internet are either 13 or act like they are 13 and that is not conducive to serious voters showing up.

The truth is we probably never really were 22k strong in Iowa in the first place.

We need to get up off our asses and unplug! Youtube and myspace won't win presidental elections, only the hearts and minds of middle schoolers!

LOL you make a valid point about danger of over-relying on internet only activities such as diggs, youtubes, news article commenting etc but I think your criticism goes just a bit too far. Internet/youtube helped raise all this money and its free format helps a rebel candidate like RP. But you are right that this new medium alone will not get RP into WH and more effctive strategy is needed which will be a combo of new school/old school.

That said, considering Iowa demographic, RP did well with 10% vote. This is good start but we should be bit concerned about the message of campaign going forward. It is surprising why Ron Paul campaign has not been aggressively going after support of big majority of Americans who are very concerned with current course of America and see Bush/Cheney war policies as bad for America. RP need to question judgment of candidates who supported Iraq war policy and show how it undermines American security.

RP need to hit hard on Iraq war/foreign policy issues and how they effect taxes/economy/liberties at home. RP had the foresight and courage to oppose Iraq war years ago and need to capitalize on that. Now will be good time to take a look at our ads for NH and make sure we have the right message of Hope and Change and nothing like the recent controversial, pandering ad that was played in Iowa. Iraq War and its human, financial, liberty costs should be highlighted. We should stick with the message RP sent out in debates, that works. Majority of Americans consider Iraq war a mistake and chances of someone who supported Iraq war going to the White House in 08 are between slim and none.

Point taken

Point taken,

But I still do really think we have a problem. So many of my adult friends don't know much about Paul, and its not just because he doesn't get alot of coverage in the MSM. He gets about as much coverage as a candidate polling 7.5% should get.

Maybe the 10% will help. But as it stands now, my wife (a teacher) can tell me that all her students know who ron paul is, because they "digg" him after watching "shoes" on youtube and making parody videos of "crank that".

We need to focus off of the internet at appeal to people that are old enough to vote.

Amen, newbie. Straw polls mean nothing, and online polls mean less.

Why not educate your friends? ;)

There were no absentee ballots permitted in Iowa because it was a caucus-- thus active military were out, and 50,000 students on break were also out. Look ahead to NH, its just 4 days away. That's where we need to focus.

Well said!

I think probably a third of RP supporters are actually "involved" beyond just surfing the web and participating in every online poll they can get their hands on. But that's not enough. RP is considered the underdog, so we need everyone to get off their asses, away from the computer, and start organizing today to ensure your precinct has a precinct captain, and that you've got at least 5 people in your precinct willing to be delegates and you all nominate/vote for each other - it's that simple.

Educate your parents and their friends. Its that generation that needs to be reached. They can be counted on to vote.

New Hampshire is definitely a good place to do well. At least a third place finish there would do the campaign extremely well and give it a lot more momentum going into Super (Giga) Tuesday. I'm not going to downplay New Hampshire, especially since the Huckabee win in Iowa will most DEFINITELY sway a lot of fence-walkers in NH as far away from the evangelical uber-right as possible dreading the possibility of another 4 years of the same ol' same ol'. The Huckabee finish in Iowa is a boon to candidates like RP and McCain, IMO.

Obviously we need to get people to actually place their ballots, rather than believing some miracle is going to happen spontaneously. We need a battle plan. We need to make sure people aren't just saying "yeah yeah, sure, I'm all for Dr. Paul, I'll be there." We need to make sure they get there. We need to get vans and drive lil' ol' grannies from the VA nursing homes if we have to. We need to do more than sit around and talk, we need to organize!

Now, I, being stuck in the tundra of Indiana also have my thoughts on where some REAL focus should be. I'm not going to downplay the importance of NH at all, it IS important that we do well there. However Ron Paul should WIN in Michigan! If he doesn't, we aren't doing something right. Michigan's early open primary on the 15th is a sure bet if we hit it hard and hit it now! If ANY State in this union is ready for a Ron Paul presidency it's Michigan. Look at these people, between Clinton's welfare politics and Bush's warfare politics, they've lost EVERYTHING! They're ready for their families to come home, they're ready to get some jobs here inside the US, they're sick of all their hard earned money going to feed everyone else in the nation while they watch their factories shut down and go overseas! It's time for a change, and if Dr. Paul's message doesn't appeal to these people, I don't know what does! Let's get out there and get these people to join the rEVOLution and get to the primary!

On the bright side, those 13 year olds will be eligible to vote in 5 years;-)

:D, 16 here. I don't think it's such a bad idea to be gettin to young people now, as you said sir, we will be able to vote soon enough. And as Dr. Paul says, It is about the message. And this message will carry over to 2012 with us who will not be able to vote in this election.

I'm doubling my efforts!! More signs going up today!!! I've already confirmed I'll be my GOP Precinct Chair; I won't even be on the ballot since no one ran against me. And I'll hopefully be a delegate!! But most importantly......I'm putting up more signs. This is what I'm putting up everywhere....these vertical signs. These are about 50 cents each!!

It's is all about the MONEY! The campaign needs to focus on pocketbook issues! Especially in places like Michigan. When older people hear and understand what our monitary policies our doing to the value of their dollars (the ones in savings as well as the ones in the pocketbook) they join the revolution.

why I am so frustrated

I guess I feel like we all have been had by what amounts to a youtube phenomenon. Honestly, Obama was my second choice. And although IN PRINCIPAL I am against voting for who you think "might have a shot" there is some credence to that. Great we make a statement! But what if the costs of that statement is that we get a Huckabee as a president!!!!

Although I love Paul, I disagree with him fundamentally on some points (i.e how can an educated doctor not accept Evolution???) but not enough to not vote for him. But Huckabee is such a die hard evangelical Christian and wants to impose those views on everyone. That scares me so much.

I may defect so change can happen and not the promise of it only.
