If Trump gets the nomination which there is a high chance he will it will be a hard left election that will be felt for a century.
Trump has run a hell fire campaign that has kept his angry supporters fired up but he has entirely turned a huge portion of swing voters and normal republican voters off completely. Polls are solidly showing this.
If Hillary doesn't get indicted before the convention she will probably pick Sanders a VP. After that many Sander supporters will happily vote for the ticket with hopes she will get indicted later and have to resign. That will unify the democratic party.
At this point Cruz and Kasich will probably be defeated as well as the party is fractured but the house and senate might not fall because they won't spur huge fearful democratic voters to turn out to defeat Trump.
The perfect storm of Hillary/Sander vs Trump will get the nation a democrat house, senate, white house, and supreme court.

Nope. Republicans won't touch another outsider for decades. Trump is taking the non establishment candidates out for years. Even if Ron were to win he could never reverse even back to present levels the damage a full supper majority democratic government will get passed.

Its about time. The GOP has been such an embarrassing progressive joke of "compassionate conservatism" that it was bound to implode from the weight of hypocrisies to the nth degree.

I don't agree that Trump would do anything of substance to change the status quo, if elected, since he has been part of that all his life, he is the consummate insider.

But you are one hundred percent correct in that the status quo will march on.

The frustration of the GOP's base will continue to grow and fester, especially if they perceive that Donald Trump was robbed of the nomination. The Cruz camp will also become disillusioned with the GOP once Ted Cruz, the second place finisher, doesn't get the nomination either. That's two massive and angry camps, and it dwarfs anything Ron and/or Rand Paul could ever muster.

The anger isn't going away. The base won't be open to the idea of small government and free markets; they'll be looking for revenge. The smartest thing that the GOP could do is let Donald Trump lose in November. That is both the literal and symbolic defeat of his movement.

Creating the perception that Trump was robbed in Cleveland makes him a political martyr. The message lives on and will probably be taken up by someone similar to Trump, but much more politically articulate. Think someone with Donald Trump's brashness but with Rand Paul's mind for policy articulation. Little Marco wouldn't stand a chance.
