Biden gaffes from September 2014

Oh, Joe.

Vice President Joe Biden managed to step in it this morning while speaking about domestic violence and sexual assault:rolleyes: at the Democratic National Committee’s annual Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C.

After giving an impassioned plea to end such abuse, Biden closed his remarks with a few comments about the challenges facing Democrats in the upcoming elections.
“This is not your father’s Republican Party. This is a different breed of cat,” he said, lamenting the absence of Republicans he said used to champion issues like voter fraud. “It’s Republicans that were involved, guys like [Charles] Mac Mathias, [Bob] Packwood and so many others.”

Perhaps that’s not the best example to use in a speech aimed at reaching out to women.

Oregon Republican Bob Packwood resigned from the Senate in 1995 amid sexual harassment and abuse allegations.

Moments earlier, Biden hailed the progress made in addressing domestic abuse but said success will only come when women stop blaming themselves.

“There will always be some man raising his hand to someone weaker physically, whether it’s a woman or a child or a man, but success will come when the societal attitude changes and not a single woman in American asks herself the question, ‘What did I do? What did I do?’… Never, never, never is it the woman’s fault,” he said.
But the Packwood reference was not the only gaffe of the week for the VP.

As long as you can go in some neighborhoods and it is easier for you to buy a firearm than it is for you to buy a book, there are neighborhoods where it is easier for you to buy a handgun and clips than it is for you to buy a fresh vegetable, as long as that’s the case, we’re going to continue to see unnecessary violence” Obama said at the town hall meeting Friday afternoon.

Our Rulers’ Stupidity Continues to Astound
Becky Akers

“Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, suggested that a discount card for a grocery store could be a greater threat to privacy than the NSA’s program.”

OK, that in itself proves the guy’s a moron. But then, as if to emphasize his complete imbecility, he adds, “The NSA doesn't sell data, your grocery story does … But I don’t hear anyone complaining about the grocery store’s discount card, because you get a discount.”

The Dumbest Thing Ever Said by a U.S. Senator
Laurence M. Vance

Or at least the dumbest thing ever said by a U.S. senator from Kansas. GOP senator Pat Roberts is opposed to prisoners from Guantanamo being transferred to the federal Supermax prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This is the prison where Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, is being held while he waits on his death sentence. Roberts is not upset because many of these “terrorists” in Guantanamo have been held without charge or trial for ten years, but because “the installation lies right on the Missouri River, providing terrorists with the possibility of covert travel underwater and attempting access to the detention facility.” I think Sen. Roberts has been watching too many movies.

Most, and perhaps even all, GOP senators would prefer that Guantanamo stay open and that all the prisoners held there remain there without charge or trial until their natural deaths. How many “libertarian-leaning” Republican “constitutional conservatives” likewise hold this opinion?

And people wonder why I say the GOP is pure evil?

Congresswoman Identifies “Homicide” As Leading Cause Of ‘Most’ Murders In America
Houston, TX (The Habanero of Texas) Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee [D-Houston] held an informal press conference today announcing that her administration, through great efforts and much expense, had completed a decade-old study that focused on the cause of murders in the United States. She was reported as saying that the results were predominantly leaning towards “homicide” as being the primary cause for the murders. The congresswoman was quoted as saying,

“Datas (sic) uncover (sic) today give us a clearer portrait of a couple of possible cause (sic) for murder, but let’s be clear.. Changes in the atmospheres (sic) and combustibles (sic) also play a roles (sic) in how peoples (sic) are behave (sic). By continuing homicide (sic) and climate changes (sic) we are ascend (sic) ourselves to vulnables (sic), and we cannot deny that, Nor shall we, Nor shall I, Nor shall we all, So say we all (sic). End homicide and end climate change, and we end murder. THIS, we know.”

“So we are very, very active in that front as well,” Lynch said. “And so what I would urge people to do if you are aware of situations where children are involved, please contact the Department of Justice and the Department of Education.”

...

“We can provide guidance, we can have conversations,” Lynch continued at the fundraiser. “Everything need not result in a lawsuit, but some things do have to go to that…area…we have an important, important role to play. So, please, please, think of us there.”

Joe Biden On Violence Against Women: 'We Have To Change The Culture'

Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday told world business leaders not to relax efforts to help women make economic progress, reminding them that they must also help change the culture of sexual harassment and abuse.

“None of this matters if a woman is not safe: safe in her workplace, safe in her home, safe on the street. It’s a basic human right -- the right to be safe,” Biden said at an event co-hosted by The Huffington Post and Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Women Initiative, which supports female entrepreneurs in developing countries.

Biden cited his decades-long work on domestic violence, in particular the Violence Against Women Act he championed in the Senate, which he considers "the proudest thing I’ve ever done." Biden said he had hoped the legislation would help change attitudes toward women, especially the tendency to blame victims of sexual assault.

"When a woman is raped, when a woman is abused, the first thing other women ask is what did you do? Why were you there? What were you wearing?" Biden said. “Folks, all the opportunity and entrepreneurship in the world is good. But ultimately, starting in this country, we have to change the culture. And we’re not going to change that culture until not a single woman who is abused ever asks herself: 'What did I do?'"

Biden also mentioned the widespread problem of sexual assault on college campuses. In 2014, the White House launched "It's On Us," a campaign to hold more colleges and universities accountable for rapes and to encourage students and administrators to curb the culture of rape.

“I think we have a real chance to have a cultural change. No means no. Yes doesn’t mean yes if you’re drunk and can’t say yes. It’s rape," he said.

Biden implored men to speak up if they see instances of harassment and abuse of women, saying that “the most cowardly men I know are the ones who know it’s happening, but do nothing because it’s not good for them.”

Biden celebrated the progress that world leaders have made in allowing women more economic opportunities, but lamented that more countries need to work on providing "the basic building blocks" for women.

"If you lack basic freedom and equality, if you lack health, if you lack access to education, it’s really hard to start anything," he said.

HOUSTON - The John Biggers' mural at the Blue Triangle Multicultural Association building in the 3rd Ward has withstood the test of time but Monday U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee looked to preserve it.

The paint is cracked and the roof over the mural is incapable of withstanding a major storm.

"If there was a heavy snow like what we're experiencing in Washington (D.C.), literally this roof would collapse," Jackson Lee said.

LITERALLY:

● Martin O’Malley: Clinton’s climate plan ‘would literally burn up’ the Earth.

● Amanda Marcotte: “Sorry, Rand Paul, but your support for forcible childbirth is literally treating women like farm animals.”

● The DNC: “Even as his state literally sinks, Rubio won’t acknowledge that climate change is real.”

What hath Joe Biden — and in the case of the last item, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Guam) wrought?

Exit question: Have we literally broken the English language?

The way MAGA is juggling Pelosi, his top funder Adelson and hhis son-in-law Kushner easily makes him one of the smartest cookie ever elected to the Highest Office.
