In a Friday message to board members of the Libertarian National Committee that oversees the United States Libertarian Party, party Chairman Steven Nekhaila wrote that “This board may very well be the last one standing between the Libertarian National Committee and full collapse.”

If Nekhaila’s assessment of the situation — which he wrote is backed by a recent operational report prepared by Strategists, Inc. — is correct, then only about 12 months remain, given the next board election will be in May of 2026, to save the party.

The Libertarian Party was founded in 1971. Nekhaila took over as chairman in February of this year after the resignation of Angela McArdle who had been chairman since May of 2022

Nekhaila listed in his message to the board some steps he thinks should be taken to save the party. In the meantime, his assessment is that the party’s situation is a big mess:

We are an organization in dysfunction. We are bleeding every month. Our membership is in decline. Donor trust is shattered. Our staff, the few left, are overworked, underpaid, and somehow still showing up while we play political games and throw sand in the gears.

Jordan Willow Evans provided some additional context regarding Nekhaila’s message and the party’s situation in a Saturday article at Independent Political Report.

In September of 2023, I opined that the November of 2024 election would be “put up or shut up time” for the US Libertarian Party. I noted that the party continuing to place most its focus on activities astray from its election candidates and campaigns threatened to lead people to consider the party a failure. Six months after that election, things are not looking good for the US Libertarian Party.

Admitedly knowing no real details about what’s going on behind the scenes, my lay assessment would be this:

The Mises Caucus takeover pissed off the beltway types so they bailed.

McArdle’s betrayal of the Mises types by endorsing Trump, and now still supporting him pissed off everybody else.

Good riddance. We don’t need another political pah-tee, we just need a lot less politics.

Libertarian party was a flawed concept from the onset, doomed to fail.

I'm just surprised it took people this long to figure out.

Maybe now they can move their focus to more productive things.

(Like secession...)

I'm just a pretend Jew with a smoke hanging out of my mouth... pass this along to "@Anti Federalist" , see if you can change his mind:

The idea of secession for some regions of the United States—sometimes simplistically called “national divorce”—has increasingly been mentioned as a way to deal with the apparent growing divide between what are crudely called “red states” and “blue states.” Polls suggest that perhaps a third of the American population “indicated a ‘willingness to secede’”

Vehement opposition to the idea remains plentiful, however. Among the writers of the pundit class, any number of arguments are used to claim that secession is not desirable or moral, nor even feasible. Many conservatives, for example, rely on the standard conservative jingoism, arguing that secession is unconstitutional and “treasonous.” Conservative nationalists and moralists insist that all US residents have some sort of duty to support a unified state."

Last I checked AF's mind didn't need changing on this subject?

Mixed signals? He wants all non-whites out of the NATION with the help of Fed.gov, up to and including all of the 3-letter Agencies to do it for him and the surveillance that goes along with it. He mentioned that he would be ok without the surveillance part but I'm not sure how that can be done.

Is that somehow inconsistent with also wanting secession?

Great article BTW

"These separatists require the central regime to ensures the administration of enlightened and orderly government. It’s an old claim with a long pedigree among the imperial metropoles of old. Apparently, many people still fall for it."

Well keep in mind we're essentially being held in this country against our will. Any choices we make in terms of the federal government is essentially an act of self defense. At least that's my view. AF can speak for himself.

Yeah, I just wanted you to pass this along to him, he can speak for himself of course lol

It's all in fun 😂

You are doing a very good job, actually.

Thanks.

I celebrate the Libertarian Party because it has the Republican Party complaining about a thumb in their eye.

I celebrate the Green Party because it has the Democratic Party complaining about a thumb in their eye.

That's enough to keep me satisfied.

We will come to the point where we have to make the others go their own way, out of out territory.

Dude, you live on the west coast.

And if I have anything to say about it, you won't be any more welcome in my part of the heartland than any other California worshipper of big, fat government.
