The Last Chance for Michael Nystrom

Sounds to me like Nystron might be amenable to redirecting his traffic to the Liberty Forest. I assume this forum will again rebrand itself to promote that name once the election cycle has completed. We have a pretty good front page highlighting pertinent news items too. I'm sure there is room for tweaking it if there is a need to.

He could if it is just too much trouble/cost for him, but that would be really sad to lose daily paul imho.

Some of the responses from the forum regulars are disappointing. Obviously something needs to be done to redirect the liberty movement towards sites named something other than, "Ron Paul".

Michael would do well to make a new site. In fact, you could make a living monetizing it if you kept the expenses low and the participation high. If he doesn't want to do it, someone else should step in. Fact is, something new needs to happen. Just not everyone is going to agree on everything.

I fear the divide and conquer strategy might be at play.
The saying goes "Put 5 libertarians in a room and there will be 12 opinions."

Having rallying points around the web is what was able to keep the movement going and growing over the past 5 years. The daily paul is one of the major ones. I, for one, know that I will be paying no mind C4L anymore.

That being said, I don't think anyone has the right to tell Michael what to do with his site. I cannot imagine how many hours or dollars he's put into it since '07.

There is a MARKET for Ron Paul.

I agree there is a market for Ron. He's a one of a kind character.
I think the larger market is for liberty message though. Many of us have said this entire time that it is not about the man, but the message.

If he doesn't want to do it, someone else should step in.

If you mean Nystrom redirects DP traffic to a site someone else sets up to take out FreeRepublic.com, then yes, someone else should step in and provide Nystrom with a place to redirect traffic.

If you mean someone other than Nystrom should set up a site without Nystrom redirecting traffic there, then that site will fail.

Really, Nystrom needs to approve of this new site (which most likely means he has ownership of it of course).

People need to understand the network effect or they'll just be blowing hot air about this issue.

Here's something liberty movement people might be able to understand:

Republicans hostile to liberty continually go on and on saying "Stop trying to take over the Republican Party. Go build the Libertarian party!"

This is ridiculous in a couple of ways, only one of which is understood by liberty activists:

There are increasingly incestuous laws on the books that favor the existing 2 party system. That's why Ron Paul had no choice but to run Republican.

There is a second aspect to this, not acknowledged by the vast majority of liberty activists:

In politics, especially, people go where there are other people already. They do this for a lot of reasons, one of which is just being able to maximize one's opportunities to "network" with others. But in politics there is an even greater driver: Strength in numbers. Both of these are aspects of the network effect.

Those who are saying "Go off and start your own competitor to FreeRepublic.com. You have no right to tell Michael Nystrom what to do!" are not only confusing free speech with force, they are ignoring the natural force that keeps FreeRepublic.com the dominant Internet gathering place for conservatives: The network effect.
