The Iran question at the debate...

How damaging was the laughter and him having to have the question repeated to him on top of that?

When the moderator said what he said, something clicked in my head about it being wrong. I thought maybe I had just not heard what all the other candidates had said. But the candidates WERE taking a warhawk additude. The moderator was just flat out manipulative.

The laughter actually shows how clueless Brit Hume and tha cackling audience is. Hume pretended that all the Republicans were advocating restraint in the face of the speed boat "threat," yet Huckabee said the Iranians should be noted they would meet the gates of hell if they messed with the U.S., while Thompson said they could finally meet their "72 virgins."

I guess this is not warmongering to Brit Hume. Paul responded by calling them out on their hawkish talk, and Brit acted surprised. It was perfectly clear to anyone with a brain watching that the other candidates have itchy trigger fingers. Ron Paul was right on, Brit knew it, and so he was forced to deflect Ron's truthfulness by pretending he didn't know what he was talking about. Sickening.

I agree every person up there was talking about going to war with Iran except Paul. THere was the "72 virgin" Fred; and "Gates of hell" Huck.

Exactly. It was a prime example of doublespeak from 1984.

And you know how many of the other candidates went off on a tangent with their questions, purposefully? I didn't see Brit Hume make a mockery of them for that. So annoying!

You are absolutely right. As a Monday quarterback, I think it would be great if RP said: Why are you talking about the gates of Hell and the virgins if you are for constraint? He could have reminded that he wanted to bring the ships back home on day one of his presidency, exactly to avoid accidents like that one.And he could have said if that happened near US borders, and the US ship heard the message, "we'll blow you up in 2 minutes," then the right procedure should be to destroy them.
Oh, well. MAybe not.

RP will get boost from this, Fox question was based on discredited info and RP was the only one who called on it.

I think Ron Paul was stunned by Brit's response (yes, the other candidates were warmongering for a quick cheer, despite what it looks like to people around the world, how narrow minded of them, very unpresidential), I mean they were talking about the Gates of Hell and sending muslims to meet their virgins. Of course his response was right, the listeners were too obtuse to understand/read inbetween the lines and started snickering.

It didn't hurt him, it just goes back to the main point, that RP's supporters on the whole are more intelligent than the typical Republican (no offense intended.) More Republicans are looking for short catch phrases "Gold bless the USA." "America is the most powerful nation." "Terrorist hate use because we are free." etc...

It didn't hurt RP, but it shows that the RP party is strongly divided, between those that are vested in Neo/Con IMperialism and Small GOvernment/Freedom.

Yeah, it was quite deceptive of Brit Hume, and is disappointing to see low tactics coming from him.

But you have to remember, Murdoch signs his paycheck, and Murdoch supports Hillary/Giuliani, so their worst enemy is going to be the most conservative person: Ron Paul.

I thought this made Paul look really bad, and a friend I was watching it with that didn't know much about Paul yet said the same thing. I thought I just had missed some of what the other candidates said, but reading this thread makes me feel my 2nd guessing was incorrect and Paul was in the right. He seemed stunned by what Hume said and now I understand why.

I also thought it was disgusting the questions they were giving Paul. 911 Truthers? Come one, that was just insulting.

Does anyone have a youtube of the Iran boat question with all the candidates responses including the full one from Paul? I think most people that saw that will see Paul in a very bad light because of it.
