The Hunger Games

THIS!

My wife could barely make it through the movie. She is still nauseous even after the movie too. It is a totally cheap effect. Instead of having to choreograph fight and action scenes, just shake the camera! Even during non-action scenes, the camera was barely ever still. It would tilt back and forth like it was a helmet cam from a bad FPS.

***SEMI SPOILER BELOW MAYBE?***

I wish they would have explained the plot in more detail. I don't think they explained very well how exactly it was that they convinced everyone to accept The Hunger Games. I can understand how people are scared into war by convincing them that they are doomed if they don't destroy the terrorists or communists etc, but I couldn't understand what manipulated the society in this plot. It probably is explained more in the books, but reading the book should not be a requirement to watch the movie.

I did appreciate that it had a little more depth than the average movie nowadays, and the production quality was really high. If the camera and plot complaints were fixed, I probably would have really enjoyed the movie.

I thought they rebelled against the Capitol and the rebellion was crushed and as punishment (more like a reminder not to mess with them I guess) they have the Hunger Games?

I saw the movie last night and yeah, its pretty weak. Its a PG 13 American Battle Royale. I will read the books because im sure theres more to it than that but the central idea of this movie is a complete rip off of Battle Royale no question.

You know, a lot of people are saying this, but you could call almost any movie a ripoff. For example: The Avengers? A movie about a team of superheroes? Well that's just a ripoff of X-Men.

Sounds like Battle Royale... a Japanese film where 30 or so teenagers are forced to fight each other to the death on a island... and only 1 will survive. Everyone has an explosive collar and a random weapon. Some got a knife, some got a gun, some got a frying pan, some got a kevlar vest, some got a tazer, and etc etc.
The BR movie is ten times better than the Hunger Games movie.

Just got back from my first sign wave at the only local theater showing the Hunger Games.
This is the first movie based on a best selling trilogy about teenagers who become freedom fighters.
It opened at midnight with a blockbuster $19 million. I'm planning to go several times this weekend.
WOW, did I get a great reception! Far more smiles and waves and thumbs up than usual, especially from women!
It is showing almost hourly this weekend, make yourself a cheap sign and go out and make some friends!

This is an AWESOME idea. Did you go alone? Which state are you in?

That was the only way they could keep it PG-13

I agree, but I am hoping that an unrated version comes out later without the sloppy action scene edits.

I remember they had to cut some gore from the film for that reason. Was it the first battle scene they edited? If so, the DVD unrated version will be brutal, I think.
