The Hunger Games

Not to nitpick, but Gale would not vote for Ron Paul. He wanted to kill 'em all. Definitely a Santorum supporter.

It's a good film. Seemed rushed, but it was a really intense movie.

HELLO, this is a Ron Paul forum, correct?
My plea is simple: use the movie to promote our guy!
Several people came out of the movie and when they saw my poster they said "Yeah, you are right. They (the 3 main characters) would have loved Ron Paul".
Most people are hopin' and a prayin' that things don't get worse here in the good old US of A any time soon.
The Hunger Games is about what happens if it gets worse FAST.
The movie opens people's eyes, it's our job to then put something in front of those eyes to direct them to Ron Paul.

Make signs! Pass out flyers!
Talk to people who love the movie and recommend Ron Paul!
Thank you very much.

The story of The Tripods is a variation on post-apocalyptic literature. Humanity has been conquered and enslaved by "the tripods", unseen alien entities (later identified as "Masters") who travel about in gigantic three-legged walking machines. Human society is largely pastoral, with few habitations larger than villages, and what little industry exists is conducted under the watchful presence of the tripods. Lifestyle is reminiscent of the Middle Ages, but artifacts from later ages are still used, giving individuals and homes an anachronistic appearance.

OH MY GOD HOW WAS IT SO SIMPLE

Sorry, I've been trying to figure out the name of those books since high school. Good read.

Eh it was ok. Definitely was oriented toward those that already read the books. It did seem rushed and left out what probably would have been very important details for those that havent read the books. I thought the dog part kinda jumped the shark and I would have liked a little more political angle.

The theaters here are PACKED for this movie since most of it was filmed on sound stages and in the woods here in the Charlotte NC area. Cast members were seen hanging out numerous times at bars and restaurants about a mile from my house in a small but popular nightlife district.

i saw the movie tonight with the wife and kids. i expected it to suck bad as usually anything my teenage daughter likes winds up sucking. this movie has so many underlying government tones its pathetic. it is awesome! i loved it and cant wait for the next one. very good libertarian movie imo. i really doubt most americans will see it as such but they will root for the main characters...then hit em with a ron paul lesson! my wife has read the books and knew what was going tro happen. it was weird cause when i started picking up on the underlying government theme, i called the rest of the movie almost perfect based solely on the way our foreign policy is and the way our government works. i recommended this movie.

i give it "5 ron paulies" out of 5.

and i just realized me and the wife had our huge rp stickers on our cars. i wonder if anyone saw them after the movie and was influenced?

Just saw this movie with my wife. I didn't read the book, but really enjoyed the flick (usually I am very critical). Thought it was a lot better then the Atlas Shrugged movie (no offense against the incredible book).

Just got back from watching it with my wife. She and I have both read the books, and I personally enjoyed the setting/political overtones in the book...and the movie kept that pretty well, even better in some instances.
The movie sticks to the major points in the book, but does skip/skim around certain scenes (one we were both expecting in the movie, wasn't) and one certain character...that I feel could have been written into the story very easily, with about a 30 second to 1 minute scene...oh well.

Overall, if you want to see what the first book/setting of the story has to offer in a Hollywood version, this is it. One thing of note: I read all three books and there was only one "curse" word through the entire series...which I found very refreshing.
I had read the MPAA rating for it before going to see it, and there was no mention of language at all...but there are multiple uses of the d-word, "My God", and I think one more...each time it happened in the movie, I was literally like..."WHAT?!", only because the book was absent from them. Perhaps I missed them when I read it?

Some say it may be a Photoshop job or a hoax. If it is, it wasn't a mean hoax for me. More of a fun one.

I just came across another reference to The Hunger Games. It was over at Fark.com.

The headline there is;

"The truth about 'The Hunger Games:' Katniss is better than Bella." OMG CATFIGHT

This is a link to the actual story they are commenting on;

I admittedly did not read the book or watch the movie, but the review I saw on it on it reminded me a lot of that 80s movie "The Running Man."

The problem with Atlas Shrugged is that its a shitty fiction story, but a great vehicle for Objectivism.

I saw the movie last night, and read all three books a few months ago. I'd give the movie 3 stars out of 5.

Caution spoilers:

If you've already read the books, you'll probably be able to fill in the gaps in the film and enjoy it to some degree. If not, I can see how some people might be confused or disappointed; some key elements of the plot are missing.

I really disliked the shaky / blurred camera work and lack of sound in some key action scenes. Fundamentally, the Hunger Games books are about the effect of violence on young people and those around them. That aspect of the story is almost completely lost in the movie. It feels like it was censored by the Capitol to avoid disturbing us in the Districts.

I didn't care for the way the Katniss and Peeta characters were directed in many scenes. They were so flat and down that the movie has a bit of a depressing feel to it. The depth and range of emotions that comes through in the book was completely lost. The supporting cast did better, but even there, depth was missing. In fact, the whole movie generally felt flat.

Character development was weak all around, but especially with the tributes. CGI was weak, and particularly bad with the muttations at the end (missing the huge shock factor for Katniss), and the "girl on fire" could have been much more dramatic. They should have skipped all of the game control room scenes, and Seneca should have had a much smaller role (as in the book).

There were a couple of good, powerful scenes (such as the three-finger salutes). But in the end, I left the theater feeling somewhat let down.

The first book is honestly not that "new" or politically insightful. I found the second and third to be much more focused on manipulation and what it means to be a manufactured figurehead, what it means to convince someone to inspire others to war and death. The first one was always much more fluff.

An 80% Romance novel, with an underlying anti-government theme in a sci-fi post America. There, saved you the time/money of reading the 3 books. But aside from my dislike of the series, whatever helps us connect the dots, I'm all for it.

You saved me the trouble? All you did was make me want to see it more now! It's not like you let on anything significant with your very brief summarization of the context and nothing else. LOL
