The Free State Project | Who's interested?

I've been with FSP for a couple years now and made
the final move a few months ago. There are a lot of
really great people here. Most everyone is active at
one time or another with events all throughout the
week... Meetings of 50-70 people every month at
MURPHY's. A lot of really great ideas get hatched
at Murphy's.

The Free State Project is an excellent community.

p.s. Just the 800 or so of us already here are making
serious change. Just imagine what a few thousand
can do!

Lots of us have moved to New Hampshire from warmer climes -- I moved from California, other have moved from Kentucky, Florida, you name it. The harsh reality is, I can't name a state that has nice warm weather, and also has:
* no state income or sales tax
* open carry & shall-issue concealed-carry
* constitutional ban on eminent domain for private usage
* volunteer, essentially unpaid (and hence hard to corrupt) citizen legislature
* ~3,000 people for each State Rep, so: (a) your State Rep will actually listen to you, and (b) you have a shot at winning the office, just by meeting your neighbors
* hey, I could go on, but someone else already has: see the 101 Reasons to Choose NH

I run a website that aggregates blogs and videos created by Free-Staters who have moved to NH and become active:

Lastly, see the RP/FSP page:

hi denis,
i went last year and plan to go this year. i'm in maine
do you have any word yet if dr. paul will be speaking again this year?
how about michael badnarik? his keynote dinner last year was fantastic.
and what about g e griffin? - i hear he needs to get paid for it - is there some way
to get him there? i know last year i was talking to the guy at his table and he said
that geg hadn't known about it.

it would be fantastic to have all 3 there, don't you think?

I know the organizers are talking to Dr. Paul -- he's interested but can't commit until the primary dates are announced.
Badnarik is a possibility, but they don't want to "recycle" too many speakers year to year. The latest word on this year's speaker list is at:
http://freestateproject.org/libertyforum/2008/speakers

ok, i think that badnarik would be a good rerun.
how about g e griffin?

I would be interested if I wasn't a native Floridian - I think 65 degrees is freezing. I wouldn't last a day.

Nonsense! You'd last at least a week! :D

Seriously the weather really isn't all that bad. It's mostly hype. And besides, they make all sorts of interesting clothing for winter which helps immensely, none of which you can find anywhere in Florida!

I was talking to me brother about the Free State Project and he loves the idea.

He says that after his son graduates from school they are planning to visit Yugoslavia for a few months. After then he'll start looking for job opportunities in NH. If it looks promising, he'll move!

He likes the idea of small government and pro-gun stances.

PS: My brother now supports Ron Paul! He lives in Michigan.

Now that you've mentioned it

I was going to ask what NH is like because my husband is interested in the free state project. It sounds great, but I am very intolerant to cold weather and I was hoping to go somewhere warmer.

One cold season out of four is a small price to pay for freedom. We can teach you how to live in the cold easier than you could learn how to live with less liberty. Besides, it's not any colder than NY! :)

Most people who visit/move to NH for the first time have two reactions:

1) Sometimes within seconds of crossing the border, they do things that are illegal in other states (take off your seat belt or helmet while driving/riding, buying liquor on Sundays, open carry guns w/o any steenkin' permit, etc.

2) After or during their first winter, we always hear: "You know, this winter thing ISN'T that bad!"

We have no sales tax, no income tax, no adult seat belt law, no helmet law, no mandatory car insurance (unless you screw up), we have one rep for ever 3,089 people so we can keep them close and call them at home no problem if we have an issue. We have an Atlantic coastline, tons of lakes, mountains, rural areas, towns, small cities and largish cities. We have every climate except desert. We were the first state to declare ourselves free of the British and the right to revolution was one of the first things written into our state Constitution. We are the most atheistic state in the union, we have the highest rates of alcohol and cannabis consumption in the nation, and yet we are among the healthiest people in the country.

Come on up for a week. I think you would want to move here as soon as possible. Nearly every liberty lover does.

I'm not a fan of the cold either. A Southern Free State Project sounds awesome.

LOL! Well....nominate a southern state, then! There are some guidelines the Libertarians used to pick the right state for the project and...NONE of the finalists were southern states! Hmm. Don't feel bad, tho...CA had to be second to last.

Okay if NH is out...how about Montana? It got second place. Even though I have joined the NH Free State Project as a supporter and much as I like NH to visit, I could actually envision living in MT.

Great points, JM. You NHers rock, your state is beautiful, the people have their heads screwed on straight, and there is just nothing not to like.

Hey, Wyoming has a Free State Project too :) http://www.freestatewyoming.org/

Oh NOW Wyoming wants to be a free state!!

HEY!! Didn't Wyoming spawn the Mother of All Neocons, Dick Cheney?!
Better check the water supply or something. We can't have a population growth thanks to a FSP only to find out 5 years later there's a neo-con microbe in the environment causing the people to bomb their neighbors.

TY Syren! It also only takes $50 and a one-page form to start a business here, so nearly every libertarian-type is self-employed.

Check out Boston T. Party's idea for Wyoming. Much more do-able. Google it. I know a few that have relocated. Wyoming makes a much better choice than NH. Molon Label by Boston outlines the basic premise.

I promise to move to N.H. and vote for Ron Paul in the N.H. primary if 2 others will make the move as well. Any takers?

I'm in! Since I live outside of America I can't actually move, but as soon as I can find a way to change my Official State to NH, I will.:)

They are both doable and there are enough freedom lovers for both states. It really doesn't take that many activists to trend a smaller or less populous state back towards liberty. Look, there are about 7,000 members on this board and I bet we could do it to most states. Even with all of us split between those two states, more liberty would be a done deal for both of them. BTW, Molon Labe is a pretty good book.
