The end of AC/DC? Brian Johnson ordered to give up touring.

They need a big name to satisfy people who already bought tickets.

The "Rockstar" thing is so common today with old rock bands. They bring in a singer from a tribute band and keep touring. Journey, Foreigner, Styz are a few examples. Luckily Styz has three lead singers, so it's only one who is the clone, although he was the main singer.

That's sorta what Slash did, literally. Myles Kennedy played the guy at the end of Rock Star who got up on stage and became the new singer.

Angus joined G-N-R at Coachella. Here's a sample of what Axl will be sounding like. Not terrible, I don't think. But...not Brian. :(

How is this "medical fascism?" They didn't put a gun to his head and tell him he couldn't keep playing. They just advised him of the risk. Maybe he could tour and wear some of those headphones you see on the aircraft carrier guys? Or maybe AC/DC could go acoustic?

There's probably some crazy way for him to be on stage and completely isolated from all noise, including noise from his own mic.

Axl Rose on AC/DC Rehearsals: 'Only Day Off Was Surgery Day'
"It was a crisis and we had to act," AC/DC guitarist Angus Young says of asking Guns N' Roses singer to replace Brian Johnson
By Ryan Reed May 6, 2016

Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose discussed his path to becoming AC/DC's temporary vocalist in a new interview. RTNKabik/MediaPunch/IPX/AP

Axl Rose fractured his foot at the worst possible time: while gearing up for two massive tours with Guns N' Roses' reunited classic line-up and with AC/DC as the band's temporary frontman. "The day I found out it was broken, I left the hospital to rehearse [with AC/DC]," the singer told NME in a rare interview ahead of the band's European tour. "My only day off was the surgery day, and the next day was back to rehearsals."

Rose joined AC/DC after the band's singer Brian Johnson was forced to quit touring to avoid the risk of "total hearing loss." Rose, guitarist Angus Young and bassist Cliff Williams spoke about how the new lineup happened.

"It was a crisis that came then, and we had to act," Young said of learning about Johnson's decision. "We were in Miami at the time, when all of this came up, and unfortunately, when you're in that situation you got to make decisions pretty quick, because there are a lot of people waiting. We were supposed to actually play in Atlanta, so you're kind of going 'What do we do now?' Because of the nature of Brian's deafness, we knew that there was no easy fix. So you've got to then say, 'What do we do here?' The options were very limited and you think, if we just stop with all of this machinery, it's going to be a hell of a lot of legal entanglement…"

"We wanted to complete what we had started," he continued. "And I mean, you can't call a tour 'Rock or Bust' and then go bust!"

The members found a replacement in Rose, who reached out to assist via one of Guns N' Roses' production crew members. "When I read the news about Brian, I just called Obie to find out what they were going to do – not in the sense of like, 'Yeah, I want in!' – it was more like, if I could help," he said. "I didn't even know for sure what songs I could sing, I didn’t know what their dates were – I hadn't looked at that. [But] I found out Obie had already thrown my name in the hat!"

While Rose may be the best qualified to replace Johnson on such short notice, the AC/DC will be a personal challenge, Rose said in the interview. "['Hells Bells'] is the hardest song I've ever had to sing," said Rose.

ANGUS YOUNG Denies BRIAN JOHNSON Was Fired From AC/DC
May 6, 2016

AC/DC has taken to social media to address the circumstances surrounding singer Brian Johnson's exit from the band.

Bassist Cliff Williams and guitarist Angus Young, along with GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose, who is filling in for Brian, filmed a one-minute video explaining why Johnson had decided to step down as AC/DC's lead singer.

"You get a lot of rumors out there; a lot of people think Brian was fired. [But] that's not the case," Angus said.

"It was mainly his hearing. He already had a very bad ear, and the good ear that he had left was dropping rapidly. I mean, it was an ongoing [issue]… all the way pretty much through the tour from the beginning."

Cliff elaborated: "He had an instance where there was a marked drop in that one good ear and it came back, but not completely. The doc told him this can happen again and it may not come back. So, you know, you kind of… What do you do with that?"

Angus added that the decision to have Brian replaced for the upcoming tour "was out of our hands," insisting that "it was [Brian's] call what he felt" the best way to proceed was.

"We wouldn't win in a lot of situations because if we just stopped, there would have been a lot of people unhappy."

Rose will make his debut with AC/DC on a 12-show European leg starting on Saturday, May 7 in Lisbon, Portugal.

"It's a horrible thing [what happened to Brian]," said Axl. "And you hope that he gets better.

"I'm not dancing around about this, because it's not like, okay, somebody said they're gonna go do something else. It's because of an unfortunate circumstance. And that's something I'm very aware of."

In a separate video, Axl spoke about the challenge of replacing Brian for the upcoming shows.

"'Back In Black' is the highest-selling rock album of all time, so it's, like, you'd be measured a lot singing. And there's nothing I can… I can't take anything away from Brian's singing. It is what it is. It's, like, he's one of the rock singers.

"And how many albums have they got? I have a couple. It's, like, I have a couple [laughs], and they have a stack."

Rose admitted that he didn't know if he could do the shows or not. He explained: "For one, it was scheduling. Two, it's, like, just how they do things; I didn't know. Would it work? Would we get along? That kind of thing. And also just the material itself. I hadn't fully listened to certain things. I think in a car or whatever, you can sing part of 'Back In Black', but I never tried to sing the songs fully. I'd sing a little bit of 'Shoot To Thrill', but you always knew it was a really tough song to sing. And I never tried to do it professionally or learn the thing. So, yeah, it's a challenge, and I wanna do right by the band and the fans."

Axl also talked about what it has been like rehearsing with AC/DC for the past few weeks.

"There's no audience in their rehearsals and they're a freight train," he said. "I mean, they rehearse and the first day or [rehearsals], it's, like, 'See you at the end,' and the song starts, and then it's a freight train.

"The rehearsals… it's been really, really cool. It's like now I know the benefits of rehearsals for the first time in my life. [Laughs]"

As previously reported, approximately 7,000 AC/DC fans who bought tickets to see the band on May 16 in Werchter, Belgium have asked for refunds, although those tickets have apparently since been resold.

Angus still there, I think he lived a healthy lifestyle (by rocker standards) most or all of his life.

I've seen several videos of this concert.. amazed at the quality of European phone cameras

RIP Malcolm Young. Nov. 18, 2017. :(

Malcolm really was a rocker-roller legend. Every guitar player I know says he was one of the best rhythm players in history. He'd compose the songs and the band would fill in their particular niche. There would have been no AC/DC without him.

AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young has been laid to rest after a funeral ceremony attended by former bandmates including his brother Angus, singer Brian Johnson, bassists Cliff Williams and Mark Evans, and drummer Phil Rudd.
Young was celebrated as a “generous” man with “immense talent.” The 64-year-old died earlier this month after suffering dementia and other health issues for several years, having retired from the band he co-founded in 2014.
The traditional Catholic funeral took place at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney, Australia. Among the many family, friends and fans who attended were Australian rock singers Jimmy Barnes and Angry Anderson.

Young’s 1963 Gretch guitar, known as "The Beast," was placed on his coffin in the cathedral. Guests were given a memorial booklet which included a black guitar pick, with one side featuring the letters “M” and “Y,” split by the AC/DC thunderbolt graphic, and the other carrying Young’s birth and death dates of Jan. 6, 1953 and Nov. 18, 2017.

“Malcolm’s family thank you for your love, support and overwhelming outpouring of kindness during this time,” a statement in the booklet read. “They ask that you remember Malcolm as a man who was generous and had immense talent. His enormous legacy to his family and music industry worldwide will never be forgotten.”

While no one from the family spoke during the funeral, 9 News reported that friends offered some lighthearted memories of Young, including his passion for boating - even though he was apparently never very good at it, and kept losing anchors at sea. One observed that “not since Jaws were people so afraid of going into the water.” Another recalled a clothes shopping trip that ended as soon as Young had bought two pairs of jeans and six black t-shirts.
Lead guitarist Angus Young carried his elder brother’s guitar from the church as the coffin was placed in a hearse, with no flowers or notices other than the nameplate on the top of the casket. The cortege was led by the Scots College Pipes and Drums Band, who played a medley including AC/DC classic “It’s A Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ’n’ Roll).” A private family burial followed the service.
“He loved spending time with his family,” friend Bradley Horsburgh told ABC. “Malcolm has left us all too soon – but the spark of his talent will live on forever.”
