The difference between 9% (fifth) and 28% (first) is a quasi-scientific sociological effort called "Get Out The Vote" or GOTV. I have been pounding this and pounding this, but people need to hear it, so I will pound it again.
The cliffnotes treatment:

From my research of the last couple weeks, I have discovered that one of the biggest impacts you can have in the last 48 hours, is in election day mobilization.
From the Yale site:
Therefore, I have been telling, yelling, crying, screaming, please please let's see some election day mobilization.
An easy and effective way of doing this, is by carpooling through the lists provided by your precinct captains and meetup groups.
This effort, more than any other in NH right now, will make the difference between fifth, and first.
Click the links above, see the impressive results for yourself, and please, please set up carpools.
Hardcore RP supporters really and sincerely need to get to the polls and vote the instant they open, and then spend the rest of the day carpooling their precincts to and from the polls.
In 14 hours of trying to tell people this, I have only gotten one response from NH who called me an 'asshole.' Apparently I repeated my plea once too often, and tried to drive home the point that if we don't do this we'll languish in 5th place.
But it's true. This is wisdom that US Elections have given us from over 100 years of practice and study. NOTHING has as big an impact as GOTV. Please tell me that someone is heading a GOTV mobilization effort in NH!

Green 2004 - Election Day Mobilization Campaign in New Jersey
An election day mobilization campaign targeting registered voters between the ages of 18 and 25 is found to increase turnout, particularly among voters that had previously expressed an intention to vote.
