The Campaign Should Use Doug Wead Rather Than Jack Hunter as Surrogate for Live Media

Jack Hunter is too blunt to be able to artfully avoid questions that set up false dichotomies (such as the questions his interviewer was setting up). Hunter isn't wrong, he just doesn't know how to massage the interview process to the extent necessary to allow him the time to explain his stances.

Interesting take on that. I actually thought he turned the tables on her very skilfully. The whole "compared to what" line of reasoning was brilliant I thought. He also told her something to the effect of her question was illogical and sucked but in nicer words.

Arthel Neville. Her dad is Art Neville of the Neville Brothers. She was rude as hell (but gets my vote for most drop dead gorgeous Fox anchor). I think Jack showed great poise by not getting confrontational with her. I noticed that Doug Wead is being super nice to every interviewer. I suspect this is rule for interviews from the official campaign. I think it sell Ron's brand better than being confrontational.

Being overtly courteous to interviewers shouldn't even be an afterthought, it should be as deeply ingrained as breathing or blinking. Interviewers are merely temporary obstacles that can be easily disarmed through charm. Doug Wead put on nothing short of a clinic in how to disarm interviewers in the video the OP posted of him.

Intellectually you are spot on, but I couldn't help but cringe several times at how irritated Neville became with Hunter, simply b/c Hunter allowed her to do so based on the tone and bluntness of his answers. If you notice with Wead's interview, he always provides a cushion to his response by complimenting or very gently positioning the interviewer's question at the very beginning of his response, before proceeding into his own response. This gives him a little bit of breathing room as the interviewers are understandably impatient and irritable (after all, they have to deal with the Newt Gingriches of the world every day)

I thought Jack did great. Whenever Benton is on TV he sounds nervous as f*ck. Doug did great too but I didn't like some of his answers. BTW I like Jack's voice and there is real potential with him. I think my mom has a thing for him.

I've seen hostility work beautifully in certain situations. But I don't think it's generally appropriate in Ron Paul's 2011-12 campaign. We'll get more votes by killing them with kindness. But see the youtubes of O'reilly getting completely owned by Phil Donahue and Jeremy Glick for textbook aggressive interview style. I think if you make a really mean and aggressive interviewer frustrated and cause them to completely lose their cool you win big time. No?

Thanks for pointing that out about Wead's technique. You are absolutely right now that I think back on it. It was so smooth that I didn't even pick up on it at the time.

i'm female, north of the mason/dixon line, 50something
and jack hunter looks youthful, thoughtful and cute...
doug wead's net~chat on his facebook wall went well.

Doug Wead is in my opinion BY FAR the best spokesperson of Ron Paul.

Every time, while the interviewer is still introducing Doug Wead, you can already see that big smile on his face and you know he is just about to own the airwaves.

I love both. That said, if Jack takes this campaign as an opportunity to learn from Doug, we will multiply our power into the future.

Correct, I noticed that right off. Every time the host was rude to Wead, he thanked them. That put the host in a position of powerlessness.

Jack Hunter spends most of his time writing, composing youtube videos, and talking on the radio.

He is great at all three things.

On TV, he doesn't seem to have the command and the quick answers that are needed. You can say he's more intellectual than that, or you can say he's not experienced, whatever. He doesn't know how to speak to the ADHD audience.

This is coming from someone who lives in Charleston and is a big fan of Jack Hunter. I think he needs to step up his TV game.

Jack's interview on Fox was so bad I turned it off halfway through. I was embarrassed for the poor guy. But if the campaign sends him out as a spokesman again, they need to have their heads examined. He was simply awful. The sing songy delivery is bad enough, but he had a perfect opportunity to point out that sanctions are the act of war that provoked this episode and he instead became needlessly antagonistic. This should have been a slam dunk. When an interviewer is asking the wrong question, you redirect them. When an interviewer serves up a softball that she thinks is a tough question, that's an invitation to slam it out of the park.

Doug Wead is by far superior and Jack needs to stick to writing. It's that simple.

Well, at least in this thread, I believe the consensus is that Doug makes the better front man. I'm not about to argue that point, but I will agree with the earlier posters who suggested that Doug may not quite fully 'get' Ron on the most basic of philosophical levels. I don't think the same could be said of Jack and I think that should count for something.

Any idea on that? Is Woods perhaps too controversial with his historical perspective? Or is there some other reason?

Word on the street is that Benton doesn't like him.

Good point by Gunny, about Wead being disarming. Jack needs to lose the Zorg haircut and modify the cadence of his voice. I always attributed it to his accent, but after reading the delivery comments I'm able to differentiate the two.

jack is very effective when editorializing & staring at a typewriter.
having a human stare back at one can be distracting on live tv...
