As if the Roku didn’t have enough channels already, there’s a decent selection of “private” channels you won’t find in the channel store. Here are some of the best private channels worth checking out.
...

There are hundreds of private channels out there, but you can find most the best channels in a few places. For example, at The Nowhere Man web site, you can gain access to:

Bloomberg News Live
John Green’s Crash Course
NBC Nightly News and CBS News archives
NASA TV and Hubblecast HD
Khan Academy learning videos
Government-focused channels like C-SPAN, The Pentagon Channel, and White House Press Briefings
International news from Al Jazeera (English, American, and Arabic), BBC, and CNN International
TED Talks
Adult Swim shows
PBS
Universal Sports Network
Live local news for most major areas

:o wtf is a roku?

It's sorta like apple tv, I dunno if it has all of the features of apple tv as far as streaming from any device in the house....but essentially you plug it into your tv and into the internet and you can play netflix and various other streaming services on your tv with ease.

I dunno what the benefits are over setting up a media center pc except it is cheaper and all of the streaming content is setup for you.. and it's only $50-$70 for the device.

Hmm, looks like the nowhere man website is for roku streaming only.. and it's free, they have a donation section where you can donate with paypal or bitcoin.

Very cool. I used to use my Roku all the time but I am not even sure where it is right now.

I got one and never seemed to use it. It's got a cheap monthly fee. Have to look into it again.

Thanks Suzanimal!

I must be missing something... I just plug my 40" hdtv into my hdmi port on my motherboard. Most of the content in the OP is free online... I watch PBS documentaries all the time. Its the only thing we use the monitor for, we don't have cable satellite or a stand alone dvd player.

Ya that's what I do also, but some people don't have a desktop computer or dedicated media center to plugin to their tv and this is only $60-$90 depending on the model you get.

Hello: I'm new here so excuse me if I break any rules. We've just started using Roku and love it. I have a question concerning "security". Larry King had an interview with Oliver Stone about Roku being great tool but that it was a shame that could be used for spying. At that moment, when Larry said that Stone became a "stone". No comment. So, that's my question. Do we know anything related to that? The new model is out with "voice recognition". Something I'm concerned about due to the "smart" TV situation on listening and recording what goes on in our living rooms. Thank you for responding if you have some info on this. ndk

I recently got a Roku TV on the cheap--I like it, but I want to get the Khan Academy channel the most, and I can't make it work yet.

I got it years ago and it worked great but sometime last year it quit working and I can't figure it out.:(

Speaking of crap, I recently got an ASUS laptop and it only lasted me for two weeks before the mouse pad crapped out on me. I took it back today and they tried to give me shit because it was 5 days past the return date. The return date, of course, was not spelled out on the receipt.

So far though, the Roku TV gets high marks from me, aside from not being able to access the "hidden" channels.
