The Benefits of Land Value Taxation

In the current system it is a government issued privilege. The government enforces your claim for you against other parties. That's ownership. Get completely rid of the government and we'd still end up with land "holders", which would be more accurate to say than landowners, and end up with feudalism as more and more land concentrates in fewer and fewer hands with them essentially being their own governments over their turf as they get bigger and have more people to control. Anarcho capitalism results in feudalism. Not a very desirable system, IMO.

Doesn't your description of feudalism perfectly fit the state?

A land value tax would encourage government to be productive rather than wasteful because the only way to raise revenue would be to make locations more advantageous to use so that people are willing to pay more for exclusive tenure on a piece of land.

You are getting robbed by a gang. Do you prefer that gang be productive with its resources or wasteful?

Why do you believe this? You really think free people wouldn't exchange goods and services with one another?
I never said that simply that price systems originate with government. This doesn't mean it can emerge spontaneously its just that it usually doesn't.

Land value system is a justification for progressive tax. All taxes are bad.

As far a value crystallizing in some one's land so what? If I produce a product I raise everyone else's standard of living. My production crystallizes in everything around me. That includes people around me. I can't no more go an tax those around me as government can tax me for value crystallizing in my land.

I think the other argument was that people are excluded from your particular piece of land so you owe them for this exclusion either as an appeasement or a rent to whoever would protect you. I see this as a fallacy. Why does it only apply to land? IF it applies to land then it should apply to your body as well. Every time I choose to go to sleep instead of having sex I withdraw my body from possible pool of people who would like sex. Does this mean we have to tax people for anything they might exclude from consumption? That is no way to run a civilized society. A better system would be property rights.

If your investment contributes to the production of goods and services then you deserve a share of production. The land value tax would remove the largest opportunity from the economy which individuals and companies use to their advantage to appropriate shares of production without contributing to production in any way, shape, or form in return.

I don't buy IPO's or secondary offerings. I buy from current shareholders who want to sell. My investment doesn't go to the company. Now what?

What do you do with the environmentalists who want to buy land for conservation to preserve an endangered species or a rain forest? Doesn't this kind of kill environmentalist activity?
