Well no.
Iran ousted our dictator, the Shah, after we overthrew their democratically leader, Mossadegh via Operation Ajax in 1953.
We then punished Iran by arming our other installed dictator in Iraq, Saddam, and ordered him to attack.
While also selling weapons to Iran, Iran/Contra.
It wasn't our dictator in Iran. They were part of the British Empire. They were part of the British Empire and they were primary means of Britain to pay us for going to war to defend them in World War 2.
FDR demanded an enormous sum of money from Britain that they only paid it all back in 2006. We extracted well over a trillion dollars from them in today's money.
Part of that money was used to defend Iran. Not only did we defend Iran from the Nazi's but we defended Iran from the Soviet Union and communism.
So when Stalin's communists were threatening Iran the 50s we intervened.
The theocracy that took over Iran was anti communist so we didn't intervene there. They slaughtered the communists after taking over.
That theocracy revolution didn't know borders though and came with its own threats. Our revolution and our declaration of independence inspired hundreds of countries but their revolution was threatening the entire region with theocracy.
The last thing we want is a theocracy empire in the region that can threaten global trade. Just look at how many billions of dollars Yemen is costing us and they are a small country.
