Are the delegates required to be there today? Meaning, if they don't show up today and the alternates get elevated, do the original delegates lose their seat for the entire convention?

Not sure, trying to find out.

Delegates can register on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, so I would assume they could show on Saturday and be seated.

hm. It looks like the votes in CDs are on Friday, and the 'presentation of delegates' is on Saturday per tentative schedule. Now, Romney's folks changed the order in Maine, but I doubt that will happen here?

It's really a shame there wasn't a Paul/Romney debate. Despite that, everyone listening to this speech has to, somewhere in their mind, contrast this to Romney's rhetoric. The difference is night and day.
