Ted Cruz is getting blasted on his Facebook page for supporting aid to Ukraine

Well deserved... this is a crock if I ever heard one. Rand pointed out that these billions are being funneled to Russia... and while we have a $17 trillion debt and bridges needing repair at home. I was always cautious of Cruz, but lately he's been a real disappointment - sniping at Rand, then staking out pro-spending positions like this. Should be a wake up call to a lot of people.

He's not a neocon.

For me it is simple. I use the Dick Cheney test. If "deficits don't matter" when it comes to foreign intervention, you are a neocon. If deficts DO matter, then you realize that we don't have two bloody pennies to rub together and can't be giving billions to other nations.

Unfortunately, that doesn't make one a neocon. There are other big government jerks out there besides neocons, you know. Using a term incorrectly, makes it lose all meaning.

Here's how Ron Paul defines them. http://archive.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul110.html

3. They believe in preemptive war to achieve desired ends.

^^^ this one is a big indicator.

Some insight into their philosophies:

In this classic work, Leo Strauss examines the problem of natural right and argues that there is a firm foundation in reality for the distinction between right and wrong in ethics and politics. On the centenary of Strauss's birth, and the fiftieth anniversary of the Walgreen Lectures which spawned the work, Natural Right and History remains as controversial and essential as ever.

What some people may be missing here is that Reid was trying to attach additional things to the Bill. One of those things was new funding for the IMF and some IMF related changes. Cruz was standing up against that part.

You and Ron Paul are probably right. But it really isn't possible to peer into the mind of Cruz and others and tease out their beliefs about Trotsky. If you are going to label them, you must do so on the basis of observable behavior. For me, using money we don't have to meddle in the affairs of other nations and underwrite risk for international bankers while pretending to be a fiscal conservative is close enough as a litmus test.

How is it conservative to give money away to other countries? Seems like we would want to conserve what debt we have left for our own country.

Neo = Not
Conservative = not wasting money on other countries bullshit.

Ted Cruz = NeoConservative

From your link, RP says:

More important than the names of people affiliated with neo-conservatism are the views they adhere to. Here is a brief summary of the general understanding of what neocons believe:

They agree with Trotsky on permanent revolution, violent as well as intellectual.
They are for redrawing the map of the Middle East and are willing to use force to do so.
They believe in preemptive war to achieve desired ends.
They accept the notion that the ends justify the means – that hard-ball politics is a moral necessity.
They express no opposition to the welfare state.
They are not bashful about an American empire; instead they strongly endorse it.
They believe lying is necessary for the state to survive.
They believe a powerful federal government is a benefit.
They believe pertinent facts about how a society should be run should be held by the elite and withheld from those who do not have the courage to deal with it.
They believe neutrality in foreign affairs is ill-advised.
They hold Leo Strauss in high esteem.
They believe imperialism, if progressive in nature, is appropriate.
Using American might to force American ideals on others is acceptable. Force should not be limited to the defense of our country.
9-11 resulted from the lack of foreign entanglements, not from too many.
They dislike and despise libertarians (therefore, the same applies to all strict constitutionalists).
They endorse attacks on civil liberties, such as those found in the Patriot Act, as being necessary.
They unconditionally support Israel and have a close alliance with the Likud Party.

This, I believe is about 99.9% of Congress.
