Ted Cruz: I'm running for President and I hope to earn your support

Can someone summarize why Cruz is so bad? I thought his record was pretty good in the Senate; I mean, not as good as Ron or Rand, but surely one of the better Senators we have.

The blog post from the American Conservative I excepted above does a fair job of briefly summarizing what's infuriating about Ted Cruz. Probably the key quote to answer your question is this: "Since the purpose of the campaign is just to raise Cruz’s profile at the expense of his ostensible political goals, it will be like every other Cruz effort of the last two years. "

I assume that's meant to be the flame of liberty, but it seems appropriate that it looks more like a teardrop.

Cruz is basically the personification of the collective id of the Republican base at this point: self-regarding, self-promoting, self-defeating. Uninterested in careful planning and tedious, realistic policy implementation, but drawn to the instant gratification of a grand, doomed gesture. Prone to lashing out and blaming everyone but himself when the grand gesture inevitably fails.

He and the embittered rump of voters who highjacked and still use the "Tea Party" label really deserve one another. It's just a shame that everyone else in the party (except the establishment, of course!) has to suffer for it.

Let's not kid ourselves. The Ron Paul movement created an idol to worship (metaphorically). Ron Paul didn't self promote, in fact probably the opposite. There is a reason this place is called Ron Paul Forums and not Liberty Movement Forums.

But since Rand has gotten into politics he has heavily promoted himself. And I don't blame him for it either, I am glad he has done so.

Cruz's mother was born in Delaware, thus, a US citizen. That makes him a natural born citizen.

I was born overseas to two US citizens for the same reason John McCain was born in Panama. I was born after the law was clarified.

Yes, that makes him a US citizen, just not a native or natural born citizen -

and just like McCain, no Senate resolution can make him native-born either.

If he was born in international waters or in international airspace on a vessel or aircraft to his same Delaware mother,
he would be no less a citizen of the USA, but still not eligible to take the oath of office as President (or VP for that matter).

pro war, pro police state, pro drug war and favors expanding the powers of the federal government where it benefits his ideology.

Any candidate that is pro-war is not serious about cutting spending, they just want to cut some welfare and send it all to the military.

Plus he is to divisive, no chance against Hillary.

Cruz will be fortunate to receive sufficient enough donations so that he won't need unpaid volunteers to drive him from the airport to the Holiday Inn at the debate location.

Cruz is "right cover" and bought and paid for. And a really terrible speaker.
