Target Partners with Satanist Designer Abprallen for Gay Pride Collection

REVEALED: Target's VP of brand management is treasurer at LGBTQ group that pushes school districts to allow children to secretly change gender: Company donated $2.1 million to organization.

A marketing executive at Target also serves as the treasurer of a LGBT organization which receives millions of dollars from the retailer and advocates allowing trans and nonbinary school students to keep their gender identity secret from parents.

Carlos Saavedra, 43, is Target's vice president for brand management and also volunteers as a director at GLSEN, which supports LGBTQ youth in schools.

Details of Saavedra's role at GLSEN come as Target's donations to the organization were placed under the spotlight following a backlash to the retailer's Pride month range, which includes 'tuck-friendly' women's swimwear.

Target has reportedly donated $2.1 million to GLSEN, whose policies include ensuring school staff should 'ensure that all personally identifiable and medical information relating to transgender and nonbinary students is kept confidential'.

GLSEN's policy said this should include withholding the information from 'parents or guardians... unless the student has authorized such disclosure'. Critics say the policy 'violates [a parents'] right to parent their own children]'.

Watched this interesting take on the current culture war from Adam Curry (didn't even realize this guy was still active)

His take is that the back-and-forth on these cultural issues, with each side gaining moral victories at the expense of the other, is the bigger problem we're dealing with. Megyn's having none of that as she's enjoying the long-overdue moral victory for her side. She thinks the tide of the war is turning; he thinks the battles are just escalating and real people are suffering while those with the money and power are laughing at us.

Thoughts?

Thoughts? My thought is why are you still giving two shits about what a mega millionaire script reader says and even posting their scripts for everyone else to consume?

Haha go watch some "make up transformation" and "filter" vids on YT. Believe nothing you see on the black mirrors. The computers can pretty much make anyone look like anything now. Her hair is fake extensions even.

It was entertaining for a good while watching humanity slowly descend into a digital mind prison, while holding out hope that the tide would shift, but it's not very entertaining any more.

She's still easy to look at ;-)

But yep, I agree.

Facts.

No makeup is a crime against nature.

Did you ever see the Satanist stuff in the store? According to National Review, the only items from the Abprallen product line were:

... granted, Abprallen does have other products which mention Satan, but none were on sale at Target.

Note: I used Qu33r because our forum blocks the real word

I didn't look that closely when it was at the front of the store. I know I saw the sweatshirt mentioned and the swimsuit. I did look closer after all the news stories and they moved it. Both were gone and it was a much smaller display at the back of the store. I'm sympathethic to gay people. But the original display was huge and very much in your face as soon as you walked in the door. So I can also sympathize with christians who would be offended. I think the solution made sense.

What Boycott? Target foot traffic is up days after LGBTQ collection blowback began.

On May 24, Target pulled its Pride Month collection from stores in select states after facing backlash online. The next day brought word that the company's CEO was defending his decision in the face of blowback from both sides. By May 26, the company expanded its removal of the collection to more states as protestors threatened violence, and #BoycottTarget gained traction on Twitter.

During this week of intense backlash, Target saw more customers walk through its doors than the week before.

While the threats were undoubtedly terrifying, the promised boycott never seemed to happen. Despite the outpouring of anti-Target sentiment (and false information) online and from right-wing politicians and pundits, foot traffic at Target stores for the last few days of May was up.

Target did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

From April 30 to May 27, 2023, Target saw a 69% increase in foot traffic compared to the same time period last year, Gravy Analytics found. The week of May 21, Target saw 8.70 million daily visitors compared to 8.54 million the week before. And Target's foot traffic was up 12% compared to competitors like Walmart and Costco, which saw 9% and 1% increases, respectively.

To be sure, Target's foot traffic boost is part of a longer-term trend, Gravy Analytics noted in a blog post. Early in 2022, foot traffic at Target declined. Now, it's on an upswing, which likely has more to do with the brand's focus on necessities like groceries and less with the customers' opinions on its Pride collection.

On Friday, Citi downgraded Target stock from buy to neutral, after an analysis by the bank showed a tough competitive terrain for the retail giant accentuated by slowing traffic through its stores.

Citi analyst Paul Lejuez said in a note to clients, “After significant sales gains in 2020-2022, we believe 2023 is showing that sales have peaked and are likely to fall further, creating a ‘giveback’ situation.”

He added that there had been a “noteworthy deceleration” in traffic through Target’s stores over the previous two weeks.

The note did not address the backlash against Target’s LGBTQ Pride collection in recent weeks. The company endured its longest losing streak in 23 years – 11 days – last week as the backlash against the collection played out.
