Target Obama counties in Iowa when mailing to Independent voters.

I believe our strategy for sending Super Brochures to Iowa Independent voters should focus on the counties that Obama carried in 2008. Obama overwhelmingly won this voting bloc over Hillary Clinton. They also supported him intensely in the general election and made Iowa into a blue state. So we know he had their support in 2008 and we know the intensity of that support for every county with the maps provided below. We also know from recent polling that Iowa independents have soured on Obama to a large extent.

• Among independents, 32 percent approve and 61 percent disapprove of Obama’s job performance.
• 46 percent of voters overall said they feel strongly that Obama is not doing a good job.
• The economy is a huge concern: Only 13 percent say the economy is in a recovery and 50 percent say the country is on the wrong track.
• Ron Paul vs. Obama head to head in Iowa was tie 42-42...every other republican lost to Obama.

Target the dark blue counties first and then move on once those are finished.

Targeting Iowa blue independents makes sense, considering they would only cross over to vote for Ron over Obama, and no one else. Good idea +rep

Ron Paul Products needs to add a share button on the Super Brochure website. Rev Pac had easy sharing tools on the Super Voter Bomb website and donations started taking off. They had over 10,000 shares on facebook alone.

Do you know if if we are going to begin mailing in NH after the Iowa independents are covered, or if we can mail simultaneously soon? They aren't sending to NH right now. The campaign is spending a lot in NH right now, so I guess it's a major focus in their strategy.

It's great to have you here! I'm equally as confused by the Daily Paul platform, I really need to get over there because you guys are doing great things with the precinct mailings.

I've been tracking which counties get completed with daily maps you might want to post over on the Daily Paul. It shows which counties are complete and the precincts remaining in the others.

I'm going to give you a Ron Paul answer here, and I don't mean to be flip. But have you ever noticed how Ron Paul never really speculates on the future? Before he was running, whenever people asked him, he would say, "I haven't decided on that." And now, when they ask him about running third party in the future, he says, "I haven't considered it?" A different, but similar answer of his, that I always enjoy, was when some newscaster asked him, "What do you think so-n-so [I forget who] was thinking when he said [blah, blah, blah].." And Ron Paul's response was, "I don't know because I cannot see inside that person's mind..."

After observing Ron Paul for so long, I see one fundamental way he is very different from others: He focuses solely and completely on what he's doing in the moment. He's like a Zen Master in that regard. I have learned a lot by watching and trying to emulate him as best I can.

So, to get back to your point: Right now we're concentrating on mailing the Iowa Independents, and we've got about one week to get 208,000 brochures mailed. What will be done after that will happen after this phase is done. I know the campaign is working hard on NH. After we successfully complete this phase, there is a plan in place to blanket NH with brochures, but that will come in time. One thing at a time.

I hope I didn't come across as flip or arrogant. Sometimes it is hard to tell people's intentions on the internet.

I disagree, I think it would be better to target counties in which Obama did poorly. If they supported Hillary or Edwards to begin with, then they probably weren't crazy about Obama to begin with. A lot of Hillary supporters really don't like Obama and I think Ron Paul could be the answer for a lot of Hillary, Edwards, and Kucinich supporters.

Nice map. I take it this is for the Republican mailings. Are you posting them elsewhere, or just on the RPF? I will work on a map thread later today. I'm going to have to jump offline for the time being and take care of some work-work related work.

Hillary and Edwards supporters are establishment democrats for the most part. Obama had the independent vote locked up in 2008, they are obviously disillusioned now. They voted for change and didn't get it. They would be more open to Ron Paul's candidacy. Plus that recent poll out of Iowa shows that independents are already starting to support Paul, since he was the only Republican to poll equally with Obama, everyone else lost by 10-15%. Those indies were breaking for Ron, we just need to convince them to break for Ron now.

I concur. I'm glad we prioritized the Huckabee counties and finished them off first, but we now need to target eastern Iowa. We can't allow counties like Linn with 64 precincts go without brochures. Scott county also has 47 precincts that need completion.

I still would encourage people to finish the republican supervoter list before focusing on independents. The probability of republican caucus turnout is so much greater for the republican supervoters that it will really make a much larger impact.

Many independents that I spoke with while canvassing saw President Obama as the most likely person to end interventionist foreign policy. The number of drone attacks, and accompanying civilian deaths, has greatly increased since President Obama took office. Voters are tired of war and ready for peace. Targeting the independents that supported Obama in 2008 is wise because I suspect many of them were greatly influenced by their desire to end the wars which did not come to fruition.

Ron Paul is the only candidate opposing war, including President Obama, therefore I think we have a real chance at capturing the anti-war vote.
