Taking out the establishment at its weakest links: County GOP's in "Blue" Counties

In recent months I have been making a concerted effort to become involved in local republican politics, and one of the first things I noticed was the total inactivity on my town committee. I have attended 4 monthly meetings, every month since I started, and they've averaged about 14-16 people in total. I don't know about you guys, but we have that at my campaign for liberty meet up easily. In my town well over half of the committee positions are vacant, so it's just a matter of getting signatures and you're automatically a committeeman. But enough of the particulars, I want to tell you about what I have actually experienced with these folks.

My GOP gets dominated by the democrats every year and is so happy for anyone who is interested in joining. As you can see by the meeting numbers we are not very active, because losing makes people apathetic, but our goal in taking over committees is not (at least right away) to elect republicans. Our goal is to take over county GOP's so we can then take over state GOP's so we can nominate liberty candidates who abide by the constitutional conservative message. So people in deep blue counties should be trying the hardest to take over their GOP's, because they are the easiest ones to overtake and they still have an equal vote and a voice on the state committees. If we made a concentrated effort to take over the republican committees of the 5 bluest counties of each state, we would get a lot of "bang" for our buck as your county GOP has the same vote at the state committee as every other county GOP. My point is that those of us in deep blue territory shouldn't view it as hopeless because democrats always win, you should view it as a chance to take out the establishment at their weakest links.

It is also going to boost your strength if you run a Ron Paul candidate for your district even if they are against a democrat stronghold. Someone who has to be willing to actually campaign on the ground from house to house of registered voters and non-voters. This strategy is working for us at our area because as that candidate campaigns, they tend to find Ron Paul supporters or potential Ron Paul supporters fed up with the system who can add to your contact list of Ron Paul supporters in your district. A lot of Ron Paul supporters are ignorant of the election delegate process.

You can NOT have faith that they need to do more than just vote. You have to teach them and guide them and act as a voting bloc.

While I don't use the "take over" lingo, that is very sage advice. This is my pitch to get people to sign up for PDs in crappy districts and then run the tables at state. +rep for putting this on front street!

Its a shame that Paul Ryan has garnered so much focus on this forum when we SHOULD be focused on local strategy threads like this about taking back the GOP!

This is my long-term goal as well. Move to a blue county and set up shop. Some counties in SW Georgia don't even have GOP chapters. It's been this way since the days of the dixiecrats; the GOP never really existed down here. Been represented by the same lousy democrat for I guess around 20 years or more in the U.S. House.

The only people crazy enough to start a GOP around here would be Ron Paul people, because losing doesn't scare us. And if you run for office as a republican down here, you'll lose. But, you'd be able to attend the State Convention as a delegate in the future, because you'd probably have been the only one at the county-level convention.

What's making some of these districts blue anyway? The gold in this strategy is that a liberty-minded candidate or a committee with a respect for personal liberty and a responsible foreign policy will resonate with the residents in a blue district more than the average hawkish and social conservative kind could hope to do.
These kinds of places don't just offer an opportunity to grow inward, but to expand outward as well.

I like this plan, plus you can flip it the other way for the "reddest" districts in a state and take over the Dems there. The YAL already employs such strategies at a college level.

Another solid thread by Rocco, way more important and effective than the bitch contests on this board.

Thanks FSP Rebel, I agree that a lot of threads have been sort of unproductive lately and we have to keep our eye on the ball here. The Benton crap and the other stuff doesn't matter, this is what matters.

I agree with this strategy, but watch out. It won't be any easier. You got to fight for it. The Republican party needs a cleaning. Too many entrenched individuals with their feifdoms. I had my own experience with that recently. Ron Paul isn't a Republican I was told. I was told I must vote for Mitt Romney or I'm not a good Republican. It is really quite sad, it is loyalty to the party above all else. It's ripe for some insane idiot to take over and become a dictator . . .Republicans would vote for Hitler if he had a R by his name . . .
