A good read, from the front cover of New Yorker of all places.

It's too long to cut and paste the whole thing.

Taken

Under civil forfeiture, Americans who haven’t been charged with wrongdoing can be stripped of their cash, cars, and even homes. Is that all we’re losing?

....

In general, you needn’t be found guilty to have your assets claimed by law enforcement; in some states, suspicion on a par with “probable cause” is sufficient. Nor must you be charged with a crime, or even be accused of one. Unlike criminal forfeiture, which requires that a person be convicted of an offense before his or her property is confiscated, civil forfeiture amounts to a lawsuit filed directly against a possession, regardless of its owner’s guilt or innocence.

They've been doing it for decades...

Legal precedence....

Sooner or later "We The People" will institute a justice system with which we can hold the thieves/murderers and rapists accountable for their actions.......................................Sooner I hope.

Everyday there is a story in a paper or on the web where an individual simply says "Not today." I live by it. Say it to myself in the morning. Others should too. It. Is. Liberating. Instead of living in fear when I see a police car I get...Well, I don't really get anything. I care not a fuck.

Made me think of that

Some have suggested all these stories amount to "fear mongering".

Quite the opposite.

It's my hope that more and more, people adopt the same mindset, based on these daily outrages.

Oh, believe me, these forums have had no small influence in my current mindset. I mean, I've always been situationally aware. I've prepared myself for dealing with thugs, gangs, and ne'er do wells. The daily incidents I started reading here and have followed up on my own has simply transferred that mindset to the grandest of these miscreants.
