Stop smoking for Ron Paul.

Just a suggestion

It's day 3 for me, and it sucks. I'm going cold turkey because those patches itch like hell (for those of you who seem to know it all...'just use the patch'...I hear that from people who've never used it!)

But...a pack a day smoker can free up about $110-120 a month, based on national average price, and much, much, more in places with tyrannical taxes on cigs. Back when I lived in South Jersey, cartons were $120...$360/month!!! Of course, we'd always drive down to VA. Does anyone actually buy smokes in Jersey?

Anyway, how much money could you donate to the campaign or spend on signs if you quit smoking?

You can get back on it in a year or so.

PS: Don't get me wrong on this, I'm not one of those 'stop smoking because it kills you' people, I actually think the evidence shows that it's not quite as bad as 'they' say. You have the right to do whatever you want. I'm quitting for the campaign, simple as that.

Yeah, there are plenty of ways to save some money and donate it. This is what I recommend:

- Sell your useless things on eBay and donate the proceeds to Ron Paul. Old Playstation games you'll never play again, old books you will never read again, antiques, jewelery, whatever you have that people would buy used.

- Start eating less expensive food. It's amazing how much money you can save if you buy food in bulk (such as large bags of potatoes or rice or beans).

- If you have a cable TV subscription, cancel it; it's pretty expensive and it rots your mind anyway. A TV is worth having to play DVDs, but that's about it.

To give you guys an inspiring example: I have heard that one guy *sold his house* in order to have money to donate to Ron Paul.

If only 100,000 of his supporters did those things and gave a donation of $1000, he'd have more money than any other candidate (100 million).

I dip Grizzly Straight and ever since I found Ron Paul I have started dipping more to prove a point on Class M Tobacco Taxes. So everytime I throw a dip in and a person is around, I pull them to the side explain Ron Paul to them and explain the retarded Class M Tobacco taxes and how it has jacked the prices up on Agriculture's Main Staple product.

I started quitting on Aug. 23rd...not necessarily for Ron, but I certainly have more money to donate to him as a consequence.

The first couple weeks sure sucked, but it slowly got better. Now I feel much better....you will too! And we'll all feel GREAT when Ron is in charge.

huh? quitting smoking is not sacrificing your liberties. Sacrificing your liberties is what happens when RP is not president. A number of the candidates support or might support a FEDERAL BAN ON SMOKING! (aside from possibly McCain and Thompson, although they haven't said anything on the issue).

Nobody has the right to tell you to smoke or not, you're right, and I'm not telling you to (see "you have the right to do whatever you want to" in my post). If we don't get Ron Paul elected, it's likely that you won't have the choce to do so in the future. There are so many ways of supporting RP, I just brought up one of them. I'm limited on time, so saving and donating money is my best option. Maybe you could spend a lot of time on the streets talking to people (while you smoke), that's cool, and honestly, it's probably more effective payback for your time. Please do something, though, instead of suggesting that I am giving up liberties for the sake of a politician.

I'm thinking that TDM just read the headline of the post, and took it as a demand.

Thanks everyone for the support, and I know I'm not the first one to think of this at all, just wanted to bring it up. It's always easier to have a solid reason to quit. I'm just seeing how much publicity we're getting from the 5m 3Q, really inspires me to increase donations. I'm tapped out everywhere else, so this is the best way for me.

Meanwhile, I forgot to slap a patch on in the haze of getting ready for work. It's going to be a long day 4.

I like your suggestions EXCEPT for the start eating less expensive food.

Buying bulk of high quality food is one thing, but....

The cheapest food out there is usually heavily processed for longest shelf life to keep it cheap and most poisonous and least nutritious. It took me a long time to learn it's better to eat High Quality food such as Organic vegetables, whole foods that haven't been processed. Things without corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, and modified corn starches and other nasty things used as preservatives. From eating high quality food, and drinking clean pure water, I haven't been sick in many years. A Ron Paul presidency won't help me much if I end up with some exotic disease from the crap in the food.

Eating High quality, unprocessed organic foods is NOT cheap....but it's worth the investment.

But I have ditched alot of useless stuff on Ebay and Ecrater for Ron and cancelled my cable television several months ago to save $50 a month to donate to him.
