Stephen Colbert promotes Ron Paul!

Im sad to say, I got home from class to hear my room mate say "dude, colbert ripped into Ron Paul earlier, it was nasty". I then watched the video online and informed him (a poli sci major) that it was sarcasm...

"Poli Sci Major" is code for slacker right? :)

Unfortunately, Colbert's tone for this bit did not make it immediately apparent that he was being sarcastic. It went right over the heads of many people, including me, and probably did more harm than good.

Heh, not in this case. I gotta hand it to him, he's in the ROTC, wakes up wicked early every morning for training before classes, and still does well enough considering.

He just lacks some common sense.

that was perfect, if anyone didnt get the sarcasm then with their intelligence they will probably be voting neo con regardless. Stephen Colbert is my new hero

Yeah, I don't know how that can be taken as a negative piece.... like he's pretty much saying Ron Paul tells the truth ahead of time... oh well, I've seen much clear communications lost on people

The end conclusion for a marginally intelligent person should be that Ron Paul has been speaking truth for over 400 years :)

If you didn't get Colbert's bit, go open a history book and look at the dates. Colbert basically called him Cassandra.

yeah, i love his sarcasm, and was amazed when he used satire to promote ron paul

at first i thought he was bashing him, but he made it overly apparent he was just being an in character right wing blind follower...

and i could see how those less familiar with the show might confuse it for a shot at the Doc...

Ron Paul January 27, 1986 - Its too cold to launch the space shuttle. The O-rings will contract and fail. Its gonna blow up!

Anybody who watches Colbert frequently would catch that bit from start to finish. I wouldn't worry about it.

You don't need to be familiar with Colbert. I showed this to an intelligent liberal female who doesn't have cable and had no idea who Colbert was or about his schtick. She laughed her ass off and "got it" immediately.

At this time, we need more Republicans and dumb people to vote for Ron Paul. You may have showed it to the wrong person.

I wasn't trying to convert her - although she's sympathetic to Paul, she's lost to the democratic party, early voted for someone who dropped out the next day. I was just testing the hypothesis that familiarity with Colbert is needed to understand that clip. It's the scientist in me, sorry!

That was absolutely hilarious! I'm not really a big fan of Colbert, but he is growing on me. ANybody who saw that as negative doesn't understand sarcasm. All of the "old" clips were about Paul predicting what actually is the truth (loved the earth goes around the sun one).
