Michigan delegates
is there still any way to become a voting delegate at the state convention? or is that all locked up already?
Here in Michigan, it is my understanding, that the districts that Romney had won, have delegates that are to be placed as uncommitted.
Any resident who lives in those districts, may file a presidential preference form, marked uncommitted, and can run as a national delegate.
We have a caucus being held Fri. to elect one convention Vice Chair (to preside as Chair of the District Caucus), elect one Assistant Secretary ( to serve as Secretary of the District Caucus), to elect three (3 National Convention delegates and to elect three (3) National Convention alternate delegates.
Each congressional district caucus report shall be submitted to the Secretary of the Michigan Republican State Committee prior to the convening of the State Convention at 9:00 a. m. Eastern Time on Saturday, February 16, 2008. (The same day as the Louisiana convention.)
Each congressional district caucus report shall list the names and mailing addresses of the Convention Vice-Chairperson, Assisant Secretary and the two members of the Rules Committee.
By order of the Michigan Republican State Committee as set forth in the Rules for the Selection of Delegates and Alternates to the 2008 Republican County, State, and National Conventions
The state convention on Saturday will elect 12, National Convention at-large delegates and electing 12, National Convention at-large alternate delegates
Receiveing reprots of the election in the fifteen (15) congressional district caucuses of:
45 National Convention delegates (3 per congressional district)
45 National Convention alternate delegates (3 per congressional district)
15 Convention Vice Chairs (1 per congressional district)
15 Convention Assistant Secretaries (1 per congressional disrict)
The election of a National Committeman and National Committeewoman
The transaction of other such business as may properly come before the State Convention.
As a non-delegate I would not have a vote. However, if voted as a delegate during the caucus, where they would have my form, I would be able to vote during the convention.
Also, before the permanent officers are elected for each congressional district caucus and before the vote to determine National Convention Delegate allocation, State Convention delegate vacancies shall be filled as provided in Rule 14.
Alternates automatically replace delegate vacancy must be filled by an alternate from same County and District as the delegate.
So, not really knowing anyone or a relative few who will be at the convention, and the parlimentary procedure, I WILL BE THERE TO STEP UP AND FILL ANY SPOT THAT I CAN GRAB.
Other state GOP's rules may be similar or different.
I just wanted to say that the national campaign that hired our state coordinator has been working with the meet-up groups here in MI. They told us they have a strategy that they will tell us after the caucus and before the convention.
JUST GET PEOPLE TO SIGN UP, WING IT IF YOU HAVE TO, if you do not and there was an opportunity to be a delegate, it is a loss for Ron Paul.
Thanks Torchbearer for starting this thread it was needed, and Paulitic keep up the good work.
