State Conventions, etc. ORGANIZE

Here's an important point from the Daily Dose blog at ronpaul2008.com

I realize that there are some states (don't know which ones offhand) where the delegates are bound forever. The above quote makes it clear that you should STILL try to be a delegate in these states, even if you cannot actually vote for Ron Paul as the Republican nominee. Another goal of ours is to bring the party platform back to its conservative principles. Let us get as many of our delegates into the convention in St. Paul as possible.

Z

exactly. . . .

but really, most states are not bound forever. usually it is unbinded, or bound for one round.

Exactly Paulitics, nice to have those links, one of the first steps in getting organized is to have this knowledge.

yes, i am going to make a better orgnization plan and maybe a mini secret website. i'm just scratching the surface.

This is obvious, we have to go to these local conventions and do whatever we have to in order to get our delegates to the state conventions.

more comprehensive plan coming soon.

just have to make sure that ALL ron paul delegates dont give up and actually do what they signed up to do!

Good to see you making an effort for where it really counts!

It's important to keep a distinction between primary and caucus states though.

Have you contacted No1ButPaul08 (I hope I remembered that right)? He's got a Google doc. It would make sense for the few of us interested in the actual rules to collaborate.

indeed, it's really surprising how many states are still seeking delegates at the state and county level, i will look for this google doc.

Glad to know someone else thinking the same thing.

As I asked in the National Convention forum, I wanted to know what delegates can do.

Few come to mind:

1) Get RP supporters on the rules and other committees to modify the rules so future RPs will rise easier and make your party more grassroot-oriented.

2) Binding the elected officials to the official platform and promise sanctions if they go astray. (I don't know for sure if this is possible, but this definitely should be there; we don't need a repeat of Bush's "humble foreign policy") At state-level, I think it would be most appropriate to just bind the US Congress Senators of the state and the state governor. The US House Representatives and the state legislative officials should be bound to their districts.

3) Push for reform in caucus/primary if necessary.

4) ???

If we manage to pull all of this at state and national level, then we can say Paul has won, even without the nomination.

Isn't that what we want to do? :)

exactly, but this is also our best chance of getting the nomination.
win-win

BTW, the link to the thread about what delegates can do in National Convention.

I still need to do more homework on this and hope we all can pitch in and make this an organized effort to push resolutions at all levels that will benefit us.

After all, GOP should be serving the will of people, not the way around!

not sure if we can assume HQ will take action in every state, we have to take maximum responsibility. Pick a state, see how the convention works, what happens there, what are the rules. This is surely under discussed.

The problem I've run into in Iowa is some meetup leaders saying that I should contact such and such a person in HQ and shouldn't take charge because they are "supposed" to be handling things. The problem is that the very first level of delegates are presented on a slate and to get on the slate you have to actually attend the GOP meetings. Most RP people AREN'T doing that and then they will cry murder when they aren't invited. Well, Duh. You shoulda been at your monthly GOP meetings. But most are thinking they can just show up to the county convention as a delegate and that is their magic ticket. It just doesn't work that way and I wish I could get all the delegate's contact info from HQ so I could take charge and ensure we fill all the spots.

Sigh...

They may have a privacy issue in sharing the contact information and may be the real reason for not sharing.

That said, I'm pretty sure if you ask nicely, HQ can pass along your contact information to those delegates. In fact, if enough of us asked HQ about it, HQ may allow organization to happen, especially if you stress that by organizing for all meetings, Ron Paul will come out a winner by having changing all the rules, platforms and whatnots.

And I'll go one up- I can email them about the general idea and encourage HQ to consider helping grassroots take the lead in this sort of thing.

agreed, this is a challenge - - - but there are still opportunities in states to become STATE delegates to vote for who the national delegates are. this is crucial!!!

we also have to attack problem #1 you mentioned.

I will find a way to save all this.

EVERY ONE REMEMBER:
only in some states are national delegates elected straight from the ballt.

in Most states, national delegates are selected by state delegates, whom are often selected by county or district delegates.

WE need to be these people.

I have the know how and charisma to get one of the national spots REGARDLESS of who I support. It's just I'll only be one of the 40 and we need to take 37 of that 40(3 state GOP positions). I have the plan of action to do so if I can just coordinate with the others in the state so we can essentially help the Republican party to get back on it's feet and win this election with Ron Paul as our next president. I don't think anyone could ask for something better than that.

This is the spreadsheet bradley was refering to.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p2Ua4t0-Z5pFHScTNGq7bUg

at the bottom it shows the upcoming states with how many ballots the candidates are bound and how delegates are elected.

did you get my pm
