RAEFORD — A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious.

The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.

The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs — including in-home day care centers — to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.

When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones.

I heard about this earlier this morning. It should be criminal to place kids in these institutions.

When the state has no limits, it will have no limits.

If they can mandate what you give your child for lunch, it won't be long before they claim the right to render you to a foreign nation nation for torture and execution.

Oh, wait...

And if the people who are capable of these outrages think that that's all you're going to do, they will continue to commit these outrages.

Pizza is NOT a Vegetable.

The people that determine whether or not Pizza is a vegetable or not are Vegetables in and of themselves.

LOL. Exactly. Let's use some lobbyists to deem a serving of ketchup (Hienz (tm)) to be a serving of vegetable's.

Did anyone notice that this particular lunch met the requirements? Meat - turkey, Dairy - cheese (does it have to be milk?), Grain - sandwich bread, 2 Fruit/Veg - banana, apple juice, (and maybe potato chips).

And why are they forcing kids to eat meat? What if they are vegetarian?

This results when people believe it's the state's job to protect 'innocent victims'. Next will be weekly blood-tests looking for signs of vitamin deficiencies.

Im lactose intolerant. A lot of people are. Others are allergic to Peanuts (deathly serious reaction), some Shellfish, others Gluten.

Would these same inspectors force me to buy a School Lunch if they saw that I did not have any Milk (remember, Im lactose intolerant in this example) in my Lunchbag? Require Wheat for those that are Gluten Intolerant or with Celiac Disease? Force Peanuts on those with Peanut Reactions?

Odds are, Probably.

My daughter goes to a PRIVATE CHRISTIAN day care and they even have to "obey" these insane rules. The state even barges it's way into private day cares.

everybody should go over to that state inspectors house and show up for dinner..
