Starcraft 2 kicks ass! Very anti-authoritarian campaign theme so far...

three thumbs up for starcraft 2. best rts thus far.
they do warhammer better than warhammer.

Too bad they want to charge almost $200 for a single game and too bad Activision owns Blizzard and supporting Activision is something I could never bring myself to do. :(

I don't understand why people keep saying that the game will cost $180.
The game cost $60. It is the first in the Trilogy of games!
Yes I will have to spend another $60 to buy "Heart of the Swarm".
And Yes I will spend another $60 to buy "Legacy of the Void".

But the fact of the matter is that Wings of Liberty is a game all by itself. Totally Worth the $60.
The single player campaign mode is 26 missions, each separated with cinematics.
After the cinematics end, each break from missions you go to your ship and visit the 4 locations and talk with characters which bring more cinematics.
Then there is the challenge missions and then vs. AI.
And then there is the free online Battlenet.

I put a lot of hours into it so far. Finally beat campaign mode on normal yesterday.
I retried each mission until I got both normal achievements.
After I complete the challenge mode, I am going back to get the achievements that must be done on hard.
Then there is all the other achievements I need to collect. This game will keep me busy for a long time.

Then again I am bias, I still play starcraft 1. I love me some UMS.

Haha, I can't believe I haven't found this thread yet! Yeah, starcraft 2 is pretty great. I'm surprised with how many people are playing it here.

That being said, if anyone wants to play a few games, my account is KEH - 538

I caved and downloaded a cracked version. Should be finished when I get back tonight. Then, MAYBE I'll cave and hand over $50 if I *really* like the map editor -- that's where I spent most of my time in W3.

I don't mean to quasi-derail the thread... bhut I'm *really* excited about Civilization 5 (!!!)

I actually haven't picked up SC2, yet. I'm actually more excited about Civ5 than I am about SC2... though I'm still considering it for the single-player... I would get it mostly to continue out the story/campaign from the first game - but if I have to pay almost 200 bucks for that, then I may pass...

Wings of liberty is almost 30 missions. The original starcraft had 30 missions. You're getting a full game.

I'm talking about the story encompassing the three races. I'm getting 1/3 of the races part of the story. So I'm getting 3x as many missions. Doesn't impress me - I want to enjoy the perspective from all 3 races.

My opinion, of course.

I actually won a battle.

I think it comes down to if someone bum rushes you right off the bat. So game 1, I looked awful with the lowest score of resources/units whatever, but in the second game, i was double anyone else.

I don't get it. It's fun, but I don't know all the macros and short cuts...i'm a mouse clicker.

Dude hot-key yer shit or yer not gonna survive.

I love how Starcraft pulls off the fusion between sci-fi and southern American culture. Many of the main characters, such as Jim Raynor and Arcturus Mengsk, look like the great old Confederate generals and speak with southern drawls. Most of the people working on your starship are definately "rednecks." The jukebox plays southern music such as "Sweet Home Alabama" and my personal favourite, which is an excellent version of Dixie's Land:

YouTube - Starcraft 2 Jukebox - Brian Bode - American Trilogy

Some other references to southern American culture are the names of the two governments, "The Confederacy" and "The Dominion" (the old nickname for the state of Virginia).

Okay I became a bit of an addict in the past 2 months. This is a really cool game. I haven't even played the campaign...probably won't. But the multiplayer is awesome.

you play as protoss too during the campaign. you are only missing the zerg perspective.

the campaigns are good for learning the units and tactis with each unit. its basically a real fun tutorial.

Im Moxx (no, not the magician *sigh*) on the european server, if anyone would like to practice feel free to add me as a friend, my charecter code is 777 and i'm diamond league in multiplayer, mainly as terran and toss.

another quick derail-
for those of you who played Two Worlds.
the first game sucked ass, we all know this. no matter how much i wanted to like the game, i found it boring and lacking in character development and equipment upgrading. just overall a horrible game.
Two Worlds II kicks ass. feels like completely different game, with way better interface and game mechanicals. the visuals are stunning and the physx is unbelievable.
