Springfield Armory XD - Who recommends it?

12000 rounds through mine.
90-95 percent of them cast reloads. Half of that semi-wadcutters (known for choking autoloaders).

Total jams:

3

Mine is still low in the total rounds count, how is it wearing? Is wear becoming noticeable?

Wow. That is what I call IMPRESSIVE, by any standard!

I went to a couple of local gun shops to do some price checking today, and even though I've handled the XD (never fired one) before, I couldn't resist asking to handle it again, at both gun shops :) Both are asking around $489 for the 4".

The first gun shop I went to, which is a red-neck hangout, one of the guys let he handle his CC XD, and he said it was the best money he ever spent on a gun. Loves it!

I'd much rather hear from real people like that what they think, rather than relying on professional gun reviewers.

I have pulled this gun out of mud, shaken it off, and used it. No problems.

If you buy a new one from a dealer, it's a lifetime warranty too.

I must add that my reloads use that extra "factory style" crimp for use with Lee dies. Otherwise you get "fat boy" loads that have a slight coke-bottle shape to them, and they will choke all but the most worn chambers.

Wear is normal, the bluing does come off - these things could benefit from the kind of finish that Glocks have. I conceal carried mine in Florida for 5 years, sweating all over it. It does fine.

Did I mention that I only cleaned it once a month? Sometimes I would go 2 months. You can get the magazines dirty enough to get stuck, but you have to try. :P

Ok, my mind's made up. I'm gettin' one :)

You have chosen.....

wisely.

You will not be let down by the XD. The only concern you should have at this point is, can you shoot it?

Not every gun is for everybody. And I am thankful for all those people who buy a gun before actually shooting it. They end up selling it and I am one of those guys who gets a great deal on it.

Therefore, see if you can locate a range that has rental pistols for you to try. This is very important. In my own case, I used to have a 1911 framed Springfield and I could not hit my own foot with it. My father could put the entire magazine in the X ring with it. When I picked up his Glock, that he could never hit anything with, I won my first IDPA trophy.

To me the XD felt like I designed it.

So always try before you buy.

Heck we do that with women so why not guns.

(Of course if women did not look the way they did, all we would do is play with guns and watch Sci-fi but that's another topic).

I don't own one, but have fired a couple at my range.

Very nice piece, and definitely worth the money.

The new 9mm XDM is now shipping to gun stores around the country. It holds TWENTY (19+1) rounds of 9mm.

Nice! I bought an XDM .40 but intend to get a 9mm conversion barrel for it and some 9mm mags so I can have both. I discovered the XDM40 and XDM9 are dimensionally identical except for the barrel and the corresponding hole in the slide that the barrel rests it. If you get the XDM9 you cannot convert it to anything else but if you get the XDM40 you have the option of .40, .357sig, and 9mm. By the way, I am totally impressed with this pistol it is an unbelievable deal for $550.

I'm all grins now. I picked up a XD9 Subcompact today for my wife (heh heh). I can't wait to take her (and the wife) out to the range! My brother purchased an XD9 Service model at the same time. In the next few weeks, I'll probably get another one for myself. I'm going to wait till we go to the range and I have a chance to try out my brother's and my wife's before I make a final decision which one I'm going to get. So, as I say, I'm quite happy right now :)
