Speaking at a historically racist, anti-catholic college isn't in my view something RP should be doing. Bush got away with speaking there in 2000 because he had the entire Republican Party machinery there to do damage control for him, RP, if you haven't noticed yet, doesn't. The media, if there is any, will just report the simple racist newsletters+bob jones appearance = racist type story. Honestly they'll probably ignore it the day he speaks, but godforbid RP does well on Saturday in NV and SC, and it'l be everywhere. Cmon guys, even a blind man can see Paul's campaign team is not politically savvy enough.

Please explain how they are historically racist...I see that they used to ban inter-racial dating but that is no longer the case. Are they still racist?
P.S. Welcome to the forum! :)

Dr. Bob Jones III endorsed Mitt Romney a few months back, but being a former student I know that a vast chunk of the people there are not fans of "going with the flow" as the administration leads. It would be very beneficial for them to hear from a candidate they can rally behind in opposition to the kooky leaders at that "school".

As far as the racism, I believe they a very racist school, and have only changed their positions to not stick out like a sore thumb (back in 2000 changing their dating policy).

However, those accusations are so old, the media would look very stupid in SC's eyes to attempt to bring that up again. The university has more pull in this area than you would think...

Ron Paul should not be afraid to bring his message to anyone who will let him speak.

From: http://www.statesman.com/blogs/cont...ngton/entries/2008/01/16/paul_campaign_k.html

Here’s a curiosity that turned up on the Thursday schedule distributed Wednesday night by Ron Paul’s campaign. The good doctor will speak at 5 p.m. to students, faculty and staff at Bob Jones University.

The curious part would be this note on the schedule sent to reporters. Bold type added by Window on Washington for emphasis.

For Press: This is a significant event and needs to be billed as follows: “Dr. Ron Paul will be addressing members Bob Jones University students, faculty, and staff under the sponsorship of Dr. Brenda Ludwig of the Division of Nursing in Straton Hall, with overflow in Straton Hall II.” The press should be aware that no video cameras will be allowed in the hall but will be allowed to capture Ron and students coming in and exiting Straton Hall. It should also subtly be conveyed that Dr. Ron Paul will be the only Presidential Candidate to speak at Bob Jones University (although this fact does not translate into an endorsement in any way, shape, or form).

My wife is a senior in the nursing program here, and has told me there have been very consistent Paulish ideas discussed in class (though not referencing him by name or endorsement) ;)

It is not going to make one bit of difference where he speaks, if someone doesn't file an emergency injunctive relief to require a paper trail during the vote.

Any word from anyone if anyone is trying to force a paper ballot backup?

NH recount is starting to show the problems with only the first country being counted so far.

SC will not be able to show anything reliable without a paper trail.

I do believe this thread has been hijacked.

Sarge, what are your demands? And where should we land? :p

No demands,

Just my observation. I can't believe someone in SC is raising heck about no paper trail.

One would think even a Democrat would be trying to get a paper count.

Just got back from this- Bob Jones University's incompetence knows no bounds. They moved the event from a mid-sized amphitorium, to a classroom at the end of a building. :|

There were hundreds packing the room and the hallway was flooded. A good chunk of us had to huddle around the windows outside, but we couldn't hear much. It seemed to go well though, and there was far more interest in the message than the admin anticipated, clearly.

Every little bit helps!

Hey, glad to know there were so many wanting to hear Ron Paul speak!

What's up with the chang of venue? Sounds like the administration was expecting a Guiliani size crowd :)

It was one of those, ok, if we don't let him come we'll have a big fuss made at us, so we'll let him come, but give him a classroom so nobody thinks it's a big deal.

Boy were they wrong.

What better place to bring freedom than a potentially racist sympathetic university?

Jesus hung out with lepers; I don't think he had leprosy.

Ron Paul should skip Bob Jones University. It's a really bad idea to go there.

Much better places to speak, including 100's of local TV stations. Glen Beck claims to have asked Ron Paul several times to no avail. TV is not dead yet!

Did Ron Paul ride the blimp yet?

Here's a photo op: At the controls on the copilot side.

I don't think the media could turn that into a Dukakis driving a tank story, but you never know.

My daughter is a sophmore at Bob Jones U. She called me this afternoon with news of the email she had just received saying Ron Paul would speak at the school at 5pm. I drove the 72 miles we live from the school. I guess there were around 500 souls there and room for about 100 in this small sized lecture hall. THey then moved us to a larger room and with standing room we packed in. They then said we would all have to go back to the smaller room! Most of us were left standing out in the hallway and outside. Too bad as my daughter was highly dissappointed in not hearing Ron Paul speak and several hundred others too walked away shaking their heads. Don't know if the school or the campaign is to fault. They sent email to 5000 students and faculty. Roughly 10% show up. They should have known and planned for it. Rather bummed out myself. Oh well. Go Ron!
