Speaker of the House for 118th US Congress

Cults of personality.

It becomes more common as a nation crumbles into tyranny and despotism.

Things get so bad, the people start to apply godhead images onto political "leaders"...anything to save them from the wretched conditions they themselves have created all around them.

Psychologically broken and in a culture stuck in public schools and cubicles, lacking strong parental figures, people need heroes.

A "Church" style Committee?
I remember the last one,, and people still think MKultra is a joke conspiracy theory.

I agree, but now we own the information dissemination technology. Then it was newspapers and 3 networks right? Now we can share the literal documents in seconds across the world, instead of microfiche, xerox, pamphlets, etc.

It's worth thanking Chip Roy for working out most of the reforms. He is the one who seems most serious about actually trying to make Congress work better, who also happens to have the intellectual capacity to do so. He's no Amash but might be the closest we've got to carrying his torch in that regard.

I agree. It might keep bills down to less than 1000 pages, but probably not. It is a great idea though.

Probably why they added the 72 hours to read bills, but we know how well that worked before. Last I heard from Rand Paul was that they are still giving them bills large enough to fill a shopping cart and only a few hours to read it.

Decent start to cleaning up the Congressional mess.

More please.

This will be a generational process

According to this ZH piece, there are numerous bills "attached" to the House Rules Package. A quick review looks like they'll stick a bunch of trojan horse language into the bills. For example, can someone tell me why an "illegal alien" isn't protected by the 2nd Amendment for gun purchases? The BoR does not restrict anyone from firearm ownership based on their immigration "legal status". Heck, there wasn't even a "US Citizen" when the 2nd was written, just state citizens and American nationals. Smells like trojan horse gun control. Or how creating a Border ID system doesn't harken back to Dr. Paul's warnings about border walls/security being used to keep people in? I bet any amount of money that these bills, and others, will contain loads of new globalist-friendly agenda items. I'm not sure when Rep Scalise and Gaetz, for example, stopped being AIPAC stooges but maybe I missed it? Who wrote these bills so they were all ready to go as soon as new session started? But I guess we're supposed to forget about all that since "Go Team Red rah rah" is in effect.

Missed this at the time. It's just history now...

A Historic Fight for Speaker of the House | Guest: Rep. Chip Roy

Matt Kibbe gives his analysis of the current election for Speaker of the House taking place in the U.S. Capitol, then is joined by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) for an inside look at the proceedings. For the first time in a hundred years, Congress has been unable to decide on a Speaker after multiple ballots. While insiders assumed that Rep. Kevin McCarthy would be the obvious choice for Speaker, he is having trouble securing the votes for the job, with members of the House Freedom Caucus demanding concessions in exchange for their support. There’s a lot at stake here, including how Congress goes about budgeting and spending taxpayer funding, transparency, and the ability of all Members to make their voices heard.
