Speaker of the House for 118th US Congress

Trump's premature announcement that he is running went over like lead balloon. He has no choice now but try to get support from the establishment, which he wont. McCarthy will be Speaker. There is no other option sadly enough.

It looks like the final count is going on right now. Some hold outs are voting for McCarthy.

He won't make it this time but getting close. Maybe by the end of the day. Part of the deal involves $75 billion of defense cuts, so it doesn't seem too bad.

Yeah, Luna mentioned "pending agreements" when she voted for McCarthy. Seems that negotiations are still underway, but they are giving McCarthy some more votes this time around.

And apparently some members of the House are gone today, so that changes the math a bit.

IMO the figurehead doesn't matter much as long as the negotiations improve things. So while McCarthy is no bueno, the other options could be even worse particularly if it involves some deal with Democrats. Amash definitely has the right idea with how things need to change but he's the voice in the wilderness, so let's hope that at least these concessions turn things in the right direction. Eyepatch McCain has to hate losing $75 B in defense spending...

I'll believe there's a reason why Massie and even MTG started with McCarthy and that is because they fear the worse alternative.

I think if they don't get it done today, they probably will tomorrow morning. It is just a negotiation. At this point the last 7 should ask for 1 final concession and close the deal. They should get something before the Democrats just hold back some votes and lower the threshold needed to win.

That have virtually no chance of happening. Any cuts would have to pass the House AND the Senate nevermind the Potus.

McCarthy may as well be Speaker. The border issues are among the most fruitful this session. McCarthy will perform but there's nothing that can really be done.
Enough grandstanding. Save it for when the new holdouts have more experience and after another election. This is why Massie is voting McCarthy. It's no time to play games. Issues have to be brought to the fore, and obstruction of the Democrats has to be implemented to whatever extent possible ASAP.

Agree. Pretty much what Massie said:

Has anyone listened to the interview?

Massie explains why is is reluctant to join in the dissent. He has been in the center of this before, and due to establishment dirty tricks (by Boehner), they put in a worse candidate then McCarthy. That establishment candidate was Paul Ryan, who proceeded to really consolidate all power in the hands of a few in "leadership".

In short, if McCarthy was not the Speaker, the establishment would no doubt manage to install someone worse than McCarthy.

As for Amash, he would be a great choice (from an intellectual, constitutional perspective), but it will never happen. Quite frankly, intellectual, fair, constitutional rule is abhorred by many in politics. Politics is about winning, no matter how ugly or dirty it gets. More so from the left. At some point left libertarians need to realize that Democrats know that their polar opposite is any form of libertarianism. They despise it. No amount of being fair to them or agreeing with them on some specific issue will ever change that basic fact.

I'm not a fan of his at all, but if McCarthy get speaker with all the concessions, it's not the end of the world. He would be very constrained in what he can do and if he does anything stupid a single member can do a vote of no confidence to have him removed.

This is probably the most robust debate (within the majority Party) over the rules package that has happened in our lifetimes.

Gotta get more memes in before they finally settle on McCarthy and the whole thing becomes moot.

Take note to whom sensationalized this much needed debate & eventual agreement

They should be marginalized & ignored going forward

On Carlson right now:

Thomas Massie is on and they are discussing that in exchange for McCarthy support, a new "Church" committee is to be appointed with Massie as a member and possibly in charge.

They will be charged with investigating and exposing US Intel and law enforcement agencies illegally involved in internal election manipulation.

Trump is dead to me. The guy brought in Bolton and kept Fauci around. Look at his crappy endorsements. I hope Desantis wipes the floor with him and makes Rand his running mate.
Aside from supporting DeSantis, I agree with this whole post. The idea that the world will only be normal again if Trump becomes president is perhaps one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Celebrations about the concessions are premature. Never underestimate the treachery of the establishment.

Matt Gaetz didn't vote when his name came up. It looks like he controls the outcome now.
