It is certainly not good news. But CNN reports it as "net income".

People in otehr FOrums are already freaking out thinking Sony is going to close.

Pleas comment and d1gg if you like it.

Its still profit though. Its not a 95% revenue drop.

A *lot* of companies are seeing that sort of drop in business.

I would hope a corp as big as sony has some nest eggs put away for such an occasion.

No way around that they got their asses handed to them on PS3 profits though. Everyone laghed at nintendos silly little Wii system, and it outsold everyone else. And was cheap enough to build that N actually made a lil money off em.

Almost all of Sony's profit came from the Playstation brand. They really scrwed up with the Playstation 3.

Wii == Cheap family entertainment during the depression. What a great business move by Nintendo though. They really showed Sony & Microsoft who the king of consoles is. Even my wife wants one, and I never thought I'd hear the day. Thank god for Mario :)

I'd buy one if I could find it anywhere near the suggested retail price. How many years has it been out and they still can't manufacture enough to meet demand?

I wish they would release yet another chapter of Link's saga. I love those games.

The consoles aren't hard to find. Wii Fit is selling for premium these days though.

The Wii is a nice little toy for kids and recreational gamers, but people who take their games seriously don't use them- they just don't have the power required.

We have one, and its fine for what it is, but its underpowered and cartoonish even for games like Madden, and its hopeless for serious gaming (shooters and the like).

We picked it specifically for the lack of adult content. My older boy is beginning to pine for an X-Box though.

It's unfortunate that Nintendo doesn't try to develop more games for hard core gamers. I have a Wii, and I love it (I'm playing Wii Fit right now!), but I need my Xbox 360 when it comes to games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion. Nintendo wanted to release a system that was affordable (at least compared to the others on the market), but as a result, the hardware isn't as powerful. I'd love to see some more mature rated games on the Wii, though.

Plus, I really can't stand Sony's attitude. Anyone who has seen the E3 videos from the past few years should know what I'm talking about.

We so own this market that we can continue to dominate it even without backwards compatibility. That's how much weight we carry.

Say what? Dudes--without backwards compatibility you don't own squat. You're just Sony starting from scratch.

Dumbasses.

I've avoided Sony products for years. I can't stand it when a company can't follow industry standards and come out with their own proprietary crap so you're locked into them. The Sony Memory Stick was the last straw for me. I'd guess that almost everybody here has been screwed over by at least one Sony proprietary product over the years... betamax, video8, hi-8, minidisk, dat, atrac, sacd, etc. Then there was their rootkit crap that was a pain for me for about a year because I was a tech at the time. It looks like Blu-ray has won the HD disk war, but going by Sony's history, it will probably be as relevant as betamax in a few years or so.

Nintendo Wii rocks! There aren't as many mature games, but they're fun. I think the Wii probably just started out as a little experiment. It's basically a GameCube with a little more processing power and unique controllers. I'd guess they'll come out with a more powerful version of the Wii with a lot more processing power and the same (or better) controllers. If you want a good, fun, mature game for Wii, try No More Heroes. It has had a lot of great reviews, and you can get it at most places for $20.

Indeed. There's a reason Sony is listed twice on Gamesradar's list of the top 7 game industry PR disasters ever...and the Playstation 3 launch is in the number one spot. Of course, that list doesn't even include Sony-BMG's infamous rootkit debacle. With the contempt Sony shows towards their customers, I can't help but feel satisfied every time I hear about their bottom line taking hits.
