Somewhat saddened-- and angry

With the recent contests going the way they have, I've pretty much resigned myself to the idea of Ron Paul not getting to the White House in 2008. This saddens me, because it shows two things-- the uninformed nature of our populace, and the unpopularity of liberty and the original idea for the US gov't. I do think that people would be more receptive to Ron Paul if they were willing to do some research, but it's still apparent that the message isn't overwhelmingly popular (yet), and that is disturbing to me.

At the same time, I am incensed that John McCain is able to win a nomination for the Republican party. I am convinced that McCain truly believes in this "war on terror", which scares the hell out of me, because he'll be willing to take away our liberties in the name of safety. An economic collapse would suck, and we're heading that way, but we can pull ourselves out of that. Once our liberties are infringed and stolen, however, all bets are off. Our liberties are our single most important belongings, and we continue to allow them to be taken at an alarming rate, in the name of "safety". This is scary stuff, because this is historically how people are oppressed, and most people don't realize it until it's too late. WE MUST AVOID THIS. IT MUST BE STOPPED.

So, although I am saddened by Ron Paul's relative lack of success, I am determined to fight on. I am going to do my best to win the Virgin Islands for Paul, and I will most likely be back in the States by August. Any success we can give Ron Paul is not only a great gift for this great man, but a huge win for the movement-- he may not be able to win the nomination, but we must get his message out there, and the media's not going to help us without significant prodding. This is only the start, but it is a hugely important start, and what we do with Ron Paul will set the tone for years to come. I am ecstatic that we are still able to organize efforts like the march on Washington (assuming it is successful), because it shows that we will stand up in the face of difficulty.

I read from numerous people that Ron Paul cured their political apathy. What we must avoid is a loss for Ron Paul restoring this apathy. Continue to fight beyond Ron Paul's candidacy (wherever it ends), and restore liberty and Constitutional government to America. Do not allow apathy to creep back in. This movement is permanent.
