Great news, folks.

When struck with a tragedy like the one in Newtown, the nation goes on a gun buying spree. Now, some of you may think it's because of the talk of banning weapons. And I'm sure that's true. But let me give you reason for hope. I think when people see what can happen in a small suburban town, they begin to feel vulnerable and search for ways to prevent themselves from being victims.

This means, contrary to how the government would like us to behave, we are not a nation of victims. When confronted with a threat, Americans want to defend themselves! Add into that, that the government and media are scaring people into thinking they won't be able to defend themselves anymore, they go a-buying. I don't think most people see it as a fight against tyranny like we do. Most people are not buying their guns to prevent the government from taking over. More guns in circulation is just a cool added benefit we get.

People get that something is happening culturally. They don't understand it, but they can sense it. I take heart knowing that when people get this sense, there are still lots and lots of Americans that refuse to be victims and wait for help.

I hope it's a lot of first-time firearm owners and not just firearm enthusiasts and patriots participating in the firearm frenzy. However, to support your claim, my mother had said that supposedly concealed carry trainers are getting overwhelmed with new clients where I'm at. Either way, more firearms in circulation is a good thing. Also, not once have I heard a person say that they would turn in their firearms if they were made illegal.

Tons of first-timers! My local dealer is getting business from all sorts of new people.

That's why I don't think Obama is going to be able to do much gun control. The people for the most part like their guns more than the dems would like to admit. Obama is the best guns & ammo salesman that I've ever seen.

obummer does have a record of getting what he wants and the dumbass that are in the Dem party pushing Nazi style gun bills, oh and a weak GOP........yep that will lead to a market frenzy

Concealed carry classes are booking up about a month in advance where I'm at, where they used to have trouble filling all the seats.

I'm meeting quite a few people who are just now buying their first firearm, and I think that's a good thing. Even better, most of these people are excited about taking firearms safety classes, personal defense classes, etc. My family is still in southern California, and they have been echoing my experiences here in Kansas. The last thing we want is a bunch of irresponsible gun owners... so hopefully it doesn't go in that direction.

after the sandy hook shooting, I took my fiance to the gun store to buy her her first gun. It wasnt to get it before a gun ban, it was because she needs the ability to fight back. I guess it took a tragity to remind me even thiugh I carry my gun everywhere.

Seems to me that, despite the media's efforts to suppress it, high profile incidents like this also motivate people to see the 'unofficial' side of the thing, too. I believe that incidents where armed civilians are able to stop crap get more attention after a high-profile tragedy. I feel sure that the role SSRIs play in these things is getting more attention, too--thanks in no small part to our efforts, but at its core because people have a compelling reason to take an interest.

I just love it when tyranny's best laid plans backfire in their faces. Let's keep 'em backfiring!

I'm convinced that Obama bought a large amount of Ruger and Smith & Wesson stock sometime in the past few years.

Apologies in advance for leaving this deuce in your optimistic thread.

97% will surrender when told to do so.

It wilnot be that high nor will the numbers of LEO's willing to follow the orders.....
If Barry wants another Prohibition (this time on guns) if not civil war, he will get one....

Where?

In places like Detroit, those who would surrender them already have. Only the criminals still have them, and they won't be letting go of them. In the place where I live, there is neither trust nor love for Washington, D.C. We see FEMA go to Connecticut and New Jersey a week in advance of their disasters, yet take a week after the fact to make it to Joplin. We see our money go to subsidize passenger rail service for the relatively wealthy communities of the coasts, while we do without.

We don't like Washington. And we don't owe them shit. What's more, Tulsa, Oklahoma hasn't had a riot since 1921. And we know why that's true--deterrence.

If we wanted to live in Detroit, we'd check into a mental hospital. And if Washington tries to turn us into Detroit, we'll secede.

More #GunControl against backdrop of PerpetualWar & abiding TerroristThreat is so ABSURD, maybe it is ploy to goose economy with gun SALES.

I know some think/say YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY ARMS OR TOO MUCH AMMO, but I disagree. In the same way I think it is unnecessary and unwise for America to spend more on Military than all other nations combined.

my kid and her Canadian husband/pacifist have been looking into getting some *home protection* Another good sign!

and..while I was out today I noticed about 8 NRA stickers on people's cars/trucks that looked like new stickers - you know, the kind you get with a new membership.

I am noticing something else as well. States and towns that are already pro gun rights are making it easier for the people to Conceal carry (guns carried by school employees) getting rid of gun free zones etc. The other states and cities that already have strong gun control laws are trying to make more ( that do not work). The political divide is getting wider.

Viva la difference!.,
