Some notes for campaigning in SC

South Carolina can be ours, we just have to REALLY work hard on it. I'm on the ground here in South Carolina, particularly the Upstate of SC. I'd call this a stronghold of Neocons.

The polls may show Romney has a commanding lead, but keep in mind, there is a MAJOR disconnect between the establishment GOP and the average GOP voter.I'm fairly confident this translates into the "commanding lead of Romney". Nikki Haley's endorsement of Romney has not gone over well and it may actually work against her when she seeks re-election. Our major targets will be Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. Santorum will more than likely try to cover ground in the Upstate where ALOT of Evangelicals exist. Gingrich seems to be spread all over the state.

This is Perry and Gingrich's last line of defense. Should this not go well for them, both of them could very well drop out. Denying Santorum a win here would certainly prevent him from claiming "The Christian's Choice".

Gingrich has made significant ties with the establishment GOP in the state, so that is something to be aware of as well. If you could tie Newt to the "Good Ole Boy system in Columbia" to the average GOP voter, that could shut Gingrich out.

Some tips for talking to South Carolina voters: We rely on ALOT of Federal Dollars, so explaining how the 1 trillion dollars in cuts actually helps them more than it hurts them is crucial.

Foreign Policy is the biggest complaint many folks around here have to Ron Paul. Explaining how Ron Paul's Foreign Policy is Pro-American is very important. Making note of strong veteran support could also win people on the fence over.

Should someone bring up the issue of drugs, talk about how much easier it would be for church and family groups to treat drug addicts outside of the prison system. Explaining how Liberty defends family and church values will go a long way in making inroads with South Carolina Voters.

You will more than likely get resistance form Talk Radio. Newsradio WORD is a big culprit of this. The listening area covers the Greenville Spartanburg metro area. They are influential, but do not control the avenue of discussion. So far the local news outlets seem to be taking orders from up top with regards to coverage of Ron Paul. Expect local media ignoring or smearing him.

Any other info, I will add it later.

A point to bring up to Christians in the area: The federal government now has powers that belong to God alone. That is idolatry. You don't need a federal government to make people moral. Put faith in Family and The Church for once as opposed to the Federal Government to see how things change. Referring folks to videos where Ron Paul actually speaks on scripture will really help.

On drugs, prostitution, talk about how States Rights say South Carolina should be in charge of how these things are enforced not some Washington beauracrats.

Tobacco is the "acceptable vice" of the South. People will condemn Alcohol and Marijuana around here, but never Tobacco. Talk about how the recent smoking bans in areas are harming property rights and you will also have some people listening to you. Not everyone is a tea totaler around here.

Let's keep this bumped.

Pious, what is your take on how gun rights and states rights issues will play in SC?

Any idea of Dr. Paul's appearances in SC other than tomorrow in Columbia at Noon (which I can't make). My wife and I would really like to come see Dr. Paul and give some support.

I don't see anything under "Events" in SC on Dr. Paul's website.

It's not up to the Federal Government whether South Carolina legalizes tobacco -- according to the 10th Amendment that's up to South Carolina! That needs to be your decision, not some bureaucrat in Washington DC!

What we need is the strongest national defense in American history. We can only do that if we are here protecting South Carolina instead of off protecting Germany and Japan. Reopen the shipyards in Charleston. Reopen all the bases in South Carolina, and not only will our brave men and women be protecting us here at home, but they will be at home with their families, and cities like Charleston will be open for business again!

Yes, important.

I would add that RP is for a federal decriminalization, and that states like So. Car. would be left to decide on their own how to regulate drug use within their borders.

A bit of a grunch on my part but I felt it important to add to the discussion.

Ron Paul has the only plan of any candidate running in either party to keep Social Security solvent for the next 35 years and beyond. And that's not pie-in-the-sky, that's dollars and cents. He lays it out in his "Restore America Plan" and here is a copy.

Same... shut down bases in the WEALTHY countries like UK, Germany, Italy and Spain ReDeploy European units F16 wings/Sqdn to Shaw AFB SC:

Move European MAC base wings/Sq to Charleston AFB

Move European units to east coast bases/installations in VA, NC, SC... EASY business model... more business for the locals/communities.

Guides like this should be stickied! I've noticed a significant problem amongst volunteers -- they convey the stuff that made them change! Like non-interventionism, decriminalizing drugs, and so on. there are christian conservatives out there... WHO VOTE!

Please people on the ground there, make a case for non-interventionism, make sure an threat to the USA will be met with strong military force, and we need to win the old folks over, we're so far behind with them -- the highest mark ron got in his speech was explaining people on SS will receive their checks!! people think he will cut these programs immediately, explain anyone who was made dependent on the SYSTEM WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF, but there will be options for other people to opt out, and they will be phased out in the future when future generations have an environment that encourages saving money, so they can take care of themselves, like the good old days.

I agree with everybody's ideas. But the beat way to win SC is tie Santorium and Gingrich to ....

Lindsey Graham the most hated Republican in the state.

Also Gun owners of America Ratings: 2012 Presidential Candidates Friday, 11 November 2011 14:30 Ron Paul A+ Rick Perry A Rick Santorum B- Newt Gingrich C Mitt Romney D- Jon Huntsman Not Rated

Has Jenny Sanford endorsed anyone yet?

And can we get Mark Sanford out there? And if we can, would it be a net plus or net minus?

Upstate meetup info: http://www.meetup.com/ronpaul-281/

I've seen the Veteran's ad and the Staying on the Right Path ad on TV. Heard radio ads on 95.9 FM.
Got a campaign mailer yesterday. Very nice.

My wonderful husband is coming home from work as I write this to take me and our son to Columbia to see Ron Paul (daughter has my car - college).

Very excited...it's stormy outside...safe travel to all who are going!
