Some Awesome NH Activism

Here is 1 of the Robin Hooders describing a recent day.
Pretty productive day today. Sixty eight saves, picture is of tally counter which I count each save now.

I had some good interactions with the pubic including a lady who's car was stolen by parking enforcement. She is a single mom and could not afford her outstanding tickets. Her car was towed in February and she and her four year old son were stranded in the cold. She was charged one hundred and fifty dollars towing fee and fifty dollars per day impound fee. She had to borrow from friends and family to get her car back. She wants us to interview her so she can share her story.

Keene sues parking meter 'Robin Hoods'
By MEGHAN PIERCE
http://www.unionleader.com/article/20130514/NEWS06/130519663

Here is the 1st half of the article.

KEENE - The city has filed a lawsuit against six citizens, part of a group dubbed Robin Hood of Keene that patrols downtown armed with video cameras and pockets full of change to fill expired parking meters.

Also known as Robin Hooders, the six are associated with the Free Keene group.

"They say video recording or talking to them is harassing them, but I don't agree with that," "Robin Hooder" James Cleaveland said of parking enforcement officers. "So they want to establish a safety zone of fifty feet."

Members of the group place cards under windshield wipers that read, "Your meter expired; however, we saved you from the king's tariffs, Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Please consider paying it forward," and includes an address where donations can be sent.

The group says the suit was filed because the city is losing revenue from parking tickets. The city says the activists are harassing its employees.

In the case filed May 2, the city asks the court to prohibit residents Kate Ager, Ian Bernard aka Ian Freeman, James Cleaveland, Graham Colson, Garrett Ean and Peter Eyre from coming within 50 feet of the city's three parking enforcement officers "during the performance of their employment duties for the city."

According to the suit, the residents "regularly, repeatedly and intentionally taunted, interfered with, harassed, and intimidated" the officers starting last December, "surrounding, touching or nearly touching, and otherwise taunting and harassing" the officers.

Cleaveland said the group has prevented the officers from issuing about 4,000 tickets.

New Hampshire city suing ‘Robin Hood’ for paying parking meters of strangers

The city of Keene, N.H., is suing “Robin Hood and his Merry Men” - a group that has made a name for itself by paying people’s parking meters before they can get slapped with a ticket from local parking enforcement officers.
The Union Leader reported Tuesday that six “Robin Hooders” troll the streets of the city’s quaint downtown in search of cars parked at expired meters.
When they find one, the pay the meet and slip cards under a windshield wiper that says: “Your meter expired; however, we saved you from the king’s tariffs, Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Please consider paying it forward.” The note includes an address where people can send donations for the effort.
The city claims in the lawsuit that the “Robin Hooders,” are taunting and harassing the city’s three parking enforcement officers.
“They say video recording or talking to them is harassing them, but I don’t agree with that,” James Cleaveland, member of the group, told the Union Leader. “So they want to establish a safety zone of fifty feet.”
The lawsuit says that since December the group has “intentionally taunted, interfered with, harassed and intimidated” the parking enforcement officers “by closely following them on foot and in automobiles in groups of one, two or more, often with video camera equipment and coordinating their activities using radio communication
In the suit, a parking enforcement officer says the group has harassed her, according to the Union Leader.

This story broke. Now there are dozens of reporters that have already covered this or are working on a story. The NH TV station is working on a story and a couple from Boston are. 1 of the national news channels is working on a story. Lawyers groups are putting out stories and newspapers across the world are covering it.

As I was typing this I noticed that the Boston CBS story went up. It has video that I beleive was shot this afternoon in Keene.

Seems there is such an ordinance on the books in Newmarket NH. However, it is just that, an ordinance, and not a law. You "can be" arrested for breaking a law, you can not be arrested for breaking an ordinance. You can however be fined for breaking an ordinance, if that fine is already defined in the ordinance.

At what point does this become stalking? I get the activism idea behind this, but these people are just being assholes. This won't actually accomplish anything except ruining someone else's day. Also, if I politely ask someone to leave me alone and a group of multiple people follow me as closely as they did to her, someone is getting knocked the hell out. I might get arrested for it, but it would be worth it.

I put people like this in the same boat as the Westboro Baptist Church, just to a lesser degree.

This. These guys crossed a line IMO.

The MSM is trying to use this story to take news time away from all of Obama's scandals. MSNBC, ABC News, Fox News, several local TV station, many radio stations, NHPR, many of the largest newspapers in the US and additional reports from Europe are either currently working on this story and planning on covering it.

Remember, this is another Democratic scandal. Make no mistake, while the mayor of Keene is a Republican, the mayor is mostly a ceremonial position in Keene. Every city councilor in Keene is a Democrat or registered undeclared. This is Democrats upset that the Robin Hooding folks have like saved tax payers around 4,000 $5 parking tickets in about 6 months time. I like this story but don't be confused, it's Democrats behind it. Oh, and I'm not saying Republicans wouldn't do this if they had the chance, but it Keene, they don't have the chance and never will.

Here is a story about a well known Democrat wanting Robin Hooders to be Lynched for saving tax payers money.

Daughter of Cynthia Georgina and Cheshire County Corrections Officer appear to advocate murder of Robin Hooders

Kay Georgina (https://www.facebook.com/kay.georgina), daughter of former Keene City Council member and WKBK Saturday morning radio host Cynthia Georgina, and Jacob Whitney (https://www.facebook.com/jacob.whitney.3), a Master Sergeant at the Cheshire County Department of Corrections, both liked a comment on Facebook that advocated killing Robin Hooders.

This is the link to the Facebook thread: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=277251412409532

The comment is the 6th one down, quoted here (and a convenient screenshot too):

“Edward Merrill I think it’s time to lynch one of those assholes and set an example. You don’t like our government? Then move the fuck out of the country! God they piss me off.

Why do people have to be so uncivil when it comes to Cheshire County New Hampshire politics?
May 15, 2013
http://nhfreedom.wordpress.com/2013...es-to-cheshire-county-new-hampshire-politics/

Yup, Kay Georgina did it again. She posted this to Facebook. Some Democrats...

Kay Georgina wasn’t set on just liking the lynching of innocent people. On Monday she compared paying a parking meter for a person that is 1 minute late paying a meter to raping children. We are still waiting for the apology. Here is the direct link to her post on Facebook. Here is the exact quote. Kay Georgina, “FreeKeene Robin Hooders are as well meaning and helpful as a pedophile with candy and a van at a ball game.”

This story has been covered 100s of times by now. Some people might not know all of the details, though. This Cop Block video does a pretty good job covering the issue.

I don't think I totally agree with them. Specifically, the one bro says "the only people that like parking enforcement are the people that work for parking enforcement." I live in a small town, and the biggest supporters of parking enforcement are the business owners on main street. They do not want some random person to park square in front of their store and leave their car there all day.

I could justify that.... if they owned the property the parking spaces are on.

So a NH local has turned this concept into a local TV show. It's a variety show with a heavy focus on parking enforcement in Keene. It's pretty out there. It's called AquaKeene ParkingForce and airs weekly in Keene, NH.

3rd episode is a week away.

Great news! The pro bono civil rights attorney and Peter Eyre, Cop Block co-founder, representing himself, defeated the expensive corporate law team and the Keene City prosecutor. The City of Keene's Free Speech case against Robin Hood, 4 Merry Men and a Merry Lady was dismissed. The financial lawsuit against the same folks was also dismissed. The City of Keene had ZERO case!

I'll create a new thread about it and post articles about this news, and hopefully the 17 page form that says dismissed, as some as that stuff comes out.

Rumor is that Merry Men are going to celebrate in the streets of Keene today :toady:

Update: 3 Merry Men did celebrate in the streets. Very few tickets were written.
