So your idea is to lash out at someone if someone did do this to you, even though it is legal, ok. Government waste is government waste, they left cards on there windshields. I am sure most will look into it as they did save their asses. Have you gone and tried to educate the public, they don't wanna listen (at least very few do). This is a good way to get the message out about government waste. For most people to get involved they need to feel that they are being effected directly. So what better way to show what nonsense this all is than to make a few YT videos and save some people from some worthless tickets?
As for the lashing out, I would just feel threatened by it. I'm not saying others should do it, just saying it's likely what I would end up doing. I wouldn't be able to tolerate it nearly as well as the meter maid in this video did. As I said, she clearly is the better person here.
These people
are being affected directly every time they use a meter and they already don't care enough to revolt en masse. All this video does is show some guy more or less harrassing a rank and file worker who has no real say in the policy at hand.
then why would one take up arms to use violence (government force) and make the lives of others harder when they were in that exact same spot.
To make ends meet. When it comes right down to it, people care about their own survival first.
Aeroneous I am really interested in what activism you are involved in since you seem to know what to do and what not to do, as you judge others accordingly?
I get involved at my local level, right up to the state legislature point. I'm not very effective on the national level, so I tend to just try and educate friends and family at that point. Fortunately I live in a city which is pretty liberty-friendly. But anyway, my activism is typically centered around elections. I have organized grassroots events ranging from small (a BBQ in a park which drew a couple hundred) to slightly larger (several hundred in a local college auditorium for debates) crowds. I celebrated with my local state legislator the night he won after spending several months putting together these types of efforts to help him overthrow the incumbent. I have given lectures on liberty issues and I am an instructor in a relatively large community college teaching business/econ. I try to let my students come up with their own decisions, but I definitely have a laissez faire bias in my teaching methods.
I attend my city council meetings, and as soon as a spot in my ward opens up I will be running for the position. I'm also an active participant in my county GOP, VFW, and Rotary Club. If there is an issue that needs addressing, I lobby for it by drawing support into the appropriate office as opposed to just posting videos on YouTube that make me look like an ass. So if I were in this situation, I would be addressing the city directly. If the current officer holders weren't receptive, I would be running for office.
And I know plenty of people on
this forum think that the activism in this video is just wonderful because it's anti-state, but your average joe will watch this video and just think, "What a douche." If the goal is educating the public, the message is really getting lost in implementation.
