People ask me, and I say it undermines state sovereignty. Which is why I dont like it.

Give me some more ammo to use against it!

I usually explain this in terms of putting all eggs in one basket. When you put everything in one big basket, it means that you only need one bad man to run away with it. So basically, you are putting a gigantic amount of trust in whoever will administer this to not run away with it, and even if they are being watched, this doesn't solve the problem (policing the police paradox).

It's farther much more easier to decentralize and keep it local. If you know somebody in your backyard, much much better than a nameless bureaucrat in a distant city.

umm... did we like it when the Nazi's did it to their people?

i know, generic, but im at work. will expand later.

My opinion: It's an unnatural contrivance whose sole purpose is to subdivide between 'us' and 'them' and between 'upper' and 'lower'. It would drain the budget for a purpose that has no positive result.

Better logical arguments: Requiring ID is tantamount to unreasonable search and seizure. If it were illegal to not have ID, to not be registered, there would be only the mood of authority stopping them from asking for your ID. If you didn't have it, it would be a crime.

Also, ALL IDs are subject to forgery, whether through 'fake' IDs or collusion with officials to obtain otherwise legal ID illegally. No ID program can be justified for 'security'.

And Having multiple forms of ID incorporated into one source, into one ultimate database for the population, results in any information breach or 'error' to effect all parts of ones life (SSN, State ID, "National Citizen Number", Passport credentials, and then Credit card info isnt to hard to get after that).

With a real ID card every bit of your information will be in one huge federal government ran database. This will be the only acceptable form of ID to carry. You will not be able to leave the country without one or be able to board a plane without one...
It is completely insane.
And you know how great the federal government is at managing things

It will keep you safe....very very safe......

You need the REAL ID to open a bank account, to get a job, fly in an airplane, travel in an Amtrak train, and to travel to and from Canada or Mexico. No one is exempt, not even children.

May I see your papers please?

Not having a single Huge database and control system for its citizens is a Key restriction on government. Give an inch and they take a mile.

It doesn't go far enough, they should just force every one to get a bar code of thier SSN tattooed on thier foreheads, this way we can be identified at any time.

Not to mention...homeland security recently brought up the idea to require people to have a real id to purchase pseudophedrine. This idea was floated just three days after the pass of the act, so you know the FEDS and power mongers already have an entire list of ways they want to regulate you with the ID.

The pseudoephedrine law already went into effect. It was an amendment to the PATRIOT ACT.

Christians could determine it to be the mark of the beast as predicted in the Bible. If you do not accept it you will not be able to buy and sell things. The government would truly take it that far if we let them. But whether you're a christian or not, this Real ID card is bad news for everybody. Just imagine if they decide they wanna put a GPS micro chip in it. Americans would be totally phucked.

GPS (global positioning satellites) for humans is next on the agenda.

They can do more than just unlock your car door because you left your keys lying on the seat. They can shut down your car's engine from a different country.

Just imagine what they could do to your brain once the Verichip is injected into your forehead or hand. Gonna be a lot of one-armed (or headless) people walking around although the latter might have a harder time with doorways.

The Real ID will help ensure the safety of the state from individuals who would challenge its authority.

Breaching that layer of security will serve as a pretext to implant Real ID microchips in each person's physical body.

With the Real ID firmly embedded in individuals, the state apparatus will then be able to track our every move. We'll have no choice but to comply with the wishes of the state, whether or not we agree with them. Refusal to cooperate results in turning off the chip, which means we won't be able to buy or sell anything or travel anywhere we want to go.

This sounds like a paranoid, Orwellian fantasy, but the Real ID act has already been passed and is scheduled to go into effect in May of this year.

Also, watch Aaron Russo's "America: From Freedom to Fascism." Toward the end of the film Russo recounts his conversations with one of the Rockefeller sons. He freely admitted to Russo that embedding ID chips into people's bodies is already in the works.

Russo asked him, "Don't you think about how that hurts people?"

Rockefeller replied: "Why should you care about that? Just take care of your own family."

I don't like Real ID because it allows the government to keep a database of the citizens, and brings us closer to Nazi Germany style survailance. If we are forced to take teh Real ID, be prepared to hear, "Papers, please," anytime you want to travel.

If we allow the Real ID, what's next? Chips? We've gotten by just fine all these years with STATE drivers licenses, why do we need a national ID? Just seems redundant, and worse: FASCIST.

Not to mention the fact that government can't do SHIT right. I don't want those fools possessing any data on me. They've proven that they can't protect confidential data. Every hacker in the world would be going after that data and they would no doubt be successful.

there is a book called "identity crisis". It's cheap and it goes over a lot of different aspects of security and real id is one of them. The reason reason it's bad is because it will have all your information and it's a direct access to your personal information. Why should you be required to have all your information needed to DRIVE? Don't you just need to prove that you are allowed to drive? Why do you need to have your personal information to get into a bar? Don't you just have to prove that you're 21? These are the questions you must ask yourself.
