How come there is so much damn wealth here in OC? It's NUTS! I never seen so many luxury autos and million dollar homes. I mean is everyone here a doctor, lawyer, and business owner? Why can't the rest of the country be as nice and enjoy such a high standard of living as OC? It's kind of disgusting actually!

Because like San Francisco, it's liberal.

Liberal cities and counties are the wealthiest, except in places that breed wealth, like major city centers. Then the northern part is always wealthy conservatives and corporatists.

I'm surprised you don't notice that...

San Francisco and Orange Country, and Hollywood.
Atlanta
New York
Florida Keys
Miami
etc....

Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

I wouldn't say it's liberal - it's more neocon.

In terms of wealth - it's a faux wealth. Although many people who live and work in Orange County are white collar professionals, a lot of those same people have their wealth tied up in their homes and real estate. The housing market has gone down in So. Cal - but not as much in Orange County. When the real estate really goes down, look for the folks in Orange County to be in real deep trouble.

i live in santa monica. there is ridiculous amounts of money out here it is unbelievable. i make 50k a year and can only afford a 1br place, yet i have friends in their early 20s that have 2-3bedrooms on the water. i am pretty sure everybody spends 50% of their income on rent / mortgage ... 25% on car payment ( so many fucking nice cars here it is sick), i literally get queezy when i see women driving these awesome 3series turbos, Mercedes AMG, etc. there are almost no 'normal' cars here - they are all special edition - type s, amg, z06, m series etc.

everybody rents their place, leases their car and lives paycheck to paycheck - its the only explanation.

oh did i mention its $7 for a gallon of organic milk at ralphs?

Weather has more to do with it then anything.

Outside of New York, which is THE City on this Earth, you listed some of the nicest climates.

Gee, why do rich people settle in nice climates?

It isn't exactly rocket science here.

It's all relative. There's always going to be super rich neighborhoods, because the location itself is nice. Good weather, good shopping, good entertainment and culture, good schools, etc. And lots of people want to live there, so demand for land there goes up, and price goes up. In the end, only super wealthy people can afford to live in those areas.

If you look at it another way, from someone living in a 3rd world country. Their "rich" people probably live like average Americans. Rich over there is probably owning a house, having clean water, owning a car, having a computer and tv, being able to go to college, etc. They probably wonder "why can't our whole country enjoy such a high standard as these rich people"?

Newport, RI?

Why are the wealthiest of the wealthy always liberal?

I like this explanation better. Wherever there is culture, there is a flourishing of liberalism and intellectualism.

you are so full of yourself, and based on our own personal exchanges, I have to wonder why.

He explained it - it is based on the market.

Nice weather produces a much larger real estate bubble. The wealth is an illusion.

Wilson and FDR represent liberalism. Every problem we complain about has roots that trace back to liberalism.

Wilson and FDR don't represent me. Liberalism my ass... none of you seem to be well studied on this subject.

Why don't you just explain whether or not you mean liberal in the classic sense or not and stop being a prick?

How about "I make up facts constantly"

Liberalism is:

Individual rights and equality of opportunity.
Absolute freedom of speech, thought, expression, and religion.
Limitations on power of the government.
Market or Mixed economy, with emphasis on protection against corporatism.
Open and transparent society.
Social progressivism, traditional holds no inherent value to modern society.
Freedom from coercion.

Seriously ARC, you are starting to piss me off, you guys just continue to balk and scoff all over the place, literally, like drip-running asses.

That liberalism has been pigeon-holed to represent socialism and/or communism or even the New Deal policies of FDR or the globalist and bank fiend Wilson is a tragedy of the inability of Conservatives to read above Neo-con influence. It was a product of Strauss, his words, that you are now uttering.

Piss off. Seriously, go read for yourselves, but don't think I'm going to stand by anymore while you just shit out nonsense.

Look Kade, for a kid I'm sure you are super smart.

But you say some of the dumbest things on this forum.

You claim that the richest areas are where liberalism has taken root.

So this isn't about your brand of liberalism, this is about the form of liberalism that has taken over this country.

And that liberalism is an offshoot of Wilson and FDR.

Just as conservatism today in no way represents what I stand for when I discuss conservatism. If I point ot a conservative community, they are neo-conservatives.

I make up facts constantly

now this post is pure modern day liberalism.

You take a quote directed at you - remove the quotes, and try to make it sound like I am talking about myself.

This is the type of dishonesty I am used to with liberals. You and FDR have way more in common then you claim.

You bore me.

Please, point me to the "Conservative" city on this list.

Look, you can avoid this by not insulting liberals all the time, it's degrading and it's offensive. I do take personal offense to it. When I come back with anything, you apparently get equally offended.

You asked me to put that in my signature, so I did.

I didn't ever say I made up facts, I generally try to avoid that.

I told you what Liberalism is...

If I called Conservatism Fascism, if you feel you are conservative, you would defend against it.
