So i was attempting to convert my step father

well he's hard up for war which is scary since i am serving currently

he believes iran is a seriouse threat and that iraq is a good thing

btw: hes a huckabee supporter hes also extremely southern baptist

Well Iraq doesn't even want us there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlgav80cpbg
And we obviously don't want us there

And Iran is only going to be a threat if we continue to bother them. Also, remind him that a pro-war-in-Iraq candidate really has no chance in the general election.

2 things:

1) if we eliminated the income tax, the government would still be bringing in the same amount of revenue it did in fiscal year 2000 - certainly we can pare things down to that level of spending, right?

2) if you want to get in to this with him - your income tax money actually doesn't ever pay for road projects or the like, it goes straight to paying interest on the money being borrowed from the Fed every day. But my g/f who's a RP supporter still doesn't understand that one.

If you want to see how the highway system is financed (it depends greatly on the specific road you're talking about) click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Highway_System#Financing

im talking specificly interstate 20 he specificly named that one any place i can look the raw numbers up ? also are interstes paid for at the state level?

In answer to your step-father's question:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Highway_System#Financing

Financing

About 56 percent[18] of the construction and maintenance costs are funded through user fees, primarily gasoline taxes, collected by states and the federal government, and tolls collected on toll roads and bridges. The rest of the costs are borne by the federal budget. In the eastern United States, large sections of some Interstate highways planned or built prior to 1956 are operated as toll roads. The taxes dedicated to the construction and maintenance of highways are sometimes criticized as a direct subsidy from the government to promote and maintain automobile-oriented development.

How was the Interstate Highway System funded? How is the federal-aid highway program in general funded?

The Interstate Highway System was funded with 90% federal funds from the Highway Trust Fund (stocked with motorist fuel and excise taxes) and 10% state DOT funds. It was built on a pay-as-you basis from already collected revenues, and no debt financing was used. However, about 2,300 miles of state-built revenue-bond-financed tollroads were built separately from the Interstate Highway System, and later incorporated into the System, and no federal funds were used on these. Today the entire Interstate System is almost 45,000 miles long.

This is what I understand:

Contrary to popular belief, Income Tax is NOT used to fund public services ie: Police, Fire, Libraries, Schools, Roads, etc... Instead income tax is used solely to pay off the INTEREST on the DOLLARS that the Federal Reserve prints us every year (fyi the FED just 'printed' a cool 30 billion the other day @ a 3.5'ish interest rate to 'save our economy'. Keep in mind that this is a LOAN just like you take out a bank, and we are WAAAAAAAaaay behind in our payments.

Property tax, Corporate taxes, and sales tax provide for our much needed basic civilian services, not income tax. I've NEVER heard RP talk about eliminating ANY OF THOSE.

I got in a pretty good argument with him im not gonna win the war issue he's crazy ignorant with iran, iraq

but i was getting him on the economy got into him about the irs he asked a question that i need a awnser to

where does the money come from for interstates Ie.. states, income tax , or a specific tax like the gas tax also i need solid proof

The Gas Tax pays for that.

Schools: Property Tax / Lottery Tax
Police/Fire: Property Tax / Lottery Tax

I would venture to say NONE of your federal tax goes to local programs, unless you say that federal dollars go to D.C. to which they are played with, and some scrapped off, and then put into packages and sent to the state. Let's cut out the middle man.

Your State Parks, Highways, Police, Fire Rescue, Schools, etc... are all paid with local / state taxes...

i think i found good proof on my post above yours

Show him the grace commission report. Its old but it should still hold weight unless he thinks the government has gotten more responsible with spending since then.

Edit: Woops never mind someone else mentioned this :)
