It looks like there is an interesting new US Senate Candidate in Louisiana.

Even though Karl Rove has recruited a big government democrat to switch parties to run against Mary Landrieu (the most vulnerable democrat in the country), there's a guy who looks serious about sound money and shrinking the size and scope of the federal government.

He's a rare coin dealer named Paul Hollis. www.hollisforsenate.com.

Anybody hear anything about this race?

Huey

I like his thing on National Security. It sounds like Ron Paul disguised. I think he might just be an RP Republican and either not know it or isn't telling anyone.

Mmmm... A small gov't conservative theocrat. I don't understand why he addressed problems regarding hurricanes...

Aside from his use of "heartless, profit-driven" as a bad thing.... I'll probably donate.

I'm guess he talks about Hurricanes is because he's in Louisiana, and fed gov has really messed things up down there.

He might think that talking about Ron Paul will hurt his chances in getting the nomination. Which, I don't mind as long as he stands on his principles.

all i'm sure of is that he looks A LOT better than the guy Rove recruited to run. this hollis guy seems to be about smaller government, less spend, lower taxes and the Constitution. but the other guy is a lifelong liberal democrat who switched less than a year ago. and his whole life he's been associated with the most liberal democrats in the state (LA is a pretty conservative state, so that's saying something).

if anybody knows something about this race, or this guy Hollis. please post.

Speaking of other politicians that aren't completely bad - if RP is the taxpayers' best friend, Jeff Flake of Arizona is the taxpayers' 2nd best friend. I've looked at a lot of the roll calls and he is often on a short list of House members voting no to spending increases. I was watching C-Span the other day and he absolutely demolished the farm bill; but it unfortunately passed.

Also, Jeff Miller of Florida cosponsors just about every RP bill that involves decreased spending (except for the war).

I like him a little bit, but he voted yes for the Patriot Act. There's just no excuse for that. How do you justify that legislation in your mind and vote yes?

I find it interesting that Hollis is a Rare Coin Dealer, and worked for Blanchard & Company which is a company that sells a lot of precious metals. It says he's been a coin collector all his life, and built substantial assets from one coin he received when he was six.

I wonder if that means he wants to move away from fiat currency and back to hard asset backed money? The website doesn't really say.

Yes the coin info sounds great, maybe he is against the Fed and FIAT currecy.

Hopefully he isn't a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I'm from Baton Rouge and I think this would be great if he was legit, and won.

The meet up groups could get him very far if we find out he is sincere.

I've asked around some, and it looks he's definitely serious about the whole smaller government, less spending, lower taxes thing -- as well as the belief that currency needs to be backed by something other than thin air. A bunch of years in the rare coin business will do that to a guy, I guess.

This is what I wrote to him.

Cant wait for a response

Hi there I am a republican from LA, and find your views astonishing.

I am a member in a Meetup group in LA that promotes freedom, and freedom loving candidates.

I am just one of thousands of members in our state. We are interested in hearing more of your views.

They remind me of the only conservative presidential candidate running right now. (Ron Paul)

Your views on health care are in line, with his supporters.

Free_Markets, and not more bureaucracy.

I am also very interested in your views on precious metals.

I think its a great idea to invest in
"Honest Money", (SILVER, GOLD) and obviously you do to.

What is your view on a currency backed by (Gold) or at least a way to limit new money being printed.

What is your views on the Economic Stimulus Checks, and it's adverse effects.

Also what is your stance on the the Federal Reserve and the FIAT Money problem eroding the nations wealth, through inflation.

What do you think about oil company subsidizes, and how about making other energy sources become competitive without these.

On September 10, 2001, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld announced that $2.3 trillion in military transactions could not be accounted for.

Thank you for actually having the courage to address this issue that was swept under the rug.

The right to bear arms are crucial when protecting our sovereignty, whether it is comprised domestically or from a foreign invasion.

So your stance sounds great.

Also if you can divulge any other information, on views that promote liberty, and free markers would be great.

There are hundreds waiting on this response, as it will be forwarded to the members in our group.

We look forward to hearing back, and possibly promoting your campaign when all issues are addressed.

Thanks and have a great day.

Yes. It would be nice to find a real small government conservative to support. The other "Republican" -- Kennedy, is pretty gross.
