SIX straight polls show Rand Paul in 5th place or worse

It's because Rand has been running for the General and trying to satisfy us for the last 4 months or so. If I were advising Rand Paul, I would advise him to ignore us and the General and focus on the bulk of Primary voters until the Primary is over. But then half the people on these forums would call him hitler redux or something equally ridiculous.

Yep. Exactly. He has to walk a tightrope and too many of us will knock him off if he leans too far one way or another.

I would say that, that is good, in a sense.

The position of the executive of the government of the United States is a very serious position. And, if he, Rand, is to run for that position then he must be held to a standard, that he, himself, naturally yields. It must become like putting on his socks before his shoes, to him. It must become what guides every word and every movement, in private as well as public.

If we are hard on him, let him be harder on himself. The means and the end are important, in the now and the long run, for anything sustainable toward truth and wholesome justice.

It's been a long time since he's made any big splashes, like crucifying Hillary about Benghazi and his epic filibuster about drone strikes.

The other thing to look at is who was surveyed in these polls? If they are not likely caucus/primary voters in Iowa or New Hampshire, then the polls are really irrelevant at this point in time.

Here we go again, whistling past the graveyard.

The hidebound GOP base does not want freedom.

They don't want it anymore than the general public does.

The only way Rand could pull off a primary win is to lie his ass off.

I would say he has been ignoring "us" for awhile.

Faulty premise is faulty.

You fail to understand marketing.

You have to be likable and say things that people tend to agree with. Do that better than the other guys, and you win. Elections, believe it or not, are usually not about ideology, they are about marketing. No need to lie, but if one wants to get elected then they can't say things that offend the voters. It's just that simple.

Pandering to the neocons is not working, but it has alienated a sizeable chunk of his fathers base. Might be a good time for him to flip-flop for liberty. The trend is toward Ron Paul, not the neocons.

I don't think Rand will win this time around either.

Bush and Romney are in the news lately so they lead the polls. When Rand was in the news he led the polls.

I'll still vote for Rand if he runs.

But yeah I see a lot of hopium building around here. I'm not discouraging it, but the let down will be harsh again.

Maybe if Rand does well in the primary this time, he will be in a better place next time.

It's better to be in the middle of the pack at this point. You don't want to be the front runner and have everyone attacking you.

Not sure about that, seeing how the movie "American Sniper" is breaking records at the box office. I'm not encouraged.

The polls are bearing out what I'm saying, and before I get the obligatory comment: no, Rand's people do not necessarily know what they are doing.

Rand needs to quit pissing off conservative primary voters, period.

You mean the fake conservative primary voters right? Or, his dad's base, the real ones? The waters are really muddied with WHICH group of voters he is trying to win over...

Actually it's possible that trying to satisfy the "bulk of Primary voters" and taking inconsistent positions in the process, might be hurting Rand more.
