Should Ron Paul Personally Campaign in Hawaii?

The nice thing about Hawaii is that it is a very open and relaxed culture, and so the caucuses will welcome Ron Paul voters with open arms. This is even more true because this will be the first ever Hawaii GOP caucus. There's no entrenched "establishment" club to hate us and lock us out!
Also, turnout will be very low. Everyone in Hawaii is a Democrat. Even the Mormons are Democrats!
Hawaii is a golden opportunity. The door is wide open; anything could happen. Let's win it!

I think we would have to know 'instead of what' to make this meaningful. Sure, he should be everywhere...... I'd like him there, but I don't know the calculus the campaign is running.

I was skeptical at first that an in-person campaign would be worth the expense in Hawaii. After reading the other thread on this (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?366114) I am solidly convinced that we should try and get RP to Hawaii.

Not Republican candidates. They've never even had a Republican caucus before. This is the first year. We always talk about "taking over" -- here we can get in on the ground floor!

Well, that is a plus right there.
I just got back from 12 days on the Big Island, and despite being a week away from elections I seriously didn't see one Republican sign anywhere (D's all over the island).
There won't be very many Republican voters, and no one will know the rules since they haven't caucused before. This is a GOLDEN opportunity. Plus, the Hawaiians are more more aligned with the message of personal freedom than these Midwesterners.

Yes, especially since the Romney and Santorum Campaigns sent their Son's to Campaign in Guam and the NMI Caucus's today for the Caucus's their which start in just over 12 hours.
The Paul Campaign sent no one. Another missed opportunity.... so yes send Ron and Carol to Hawaii ....

the main issue about Hawaii is making sure they are clear on Ron's social security and medicare policies imho. Hawaii is HUGE on entitlements, but I would assume most of those are Dems. But seniors who paid in all their lives expecting these programs need to know Ron makes them a higher priority than any other candidates does.

I think you're right about that everywhere. That was one area that we highlighted in our materials and that people responded very favorably to.
And no taxes on tips. In a tourism economy that is HUGE.

The caucus here in Hawaii is completely open. You can register to vote and register Republican at the caucus right before you vote. Support here seems to be strong for Romney. Lots of retired military officers and elderly business owners. The locals are very involved in local issues and very apathetic about anything outside the state. We have a chance to win here, but it would require a little bit of creative campaigning. 1 speech in waikiki and 1 speech on maui would not gain him much support. Signwaving and meet and greets would work way better.

The article is totally on point here -- it's local campaigning, small townhall events, and meeting with elders that would make the most impact. I'm really keeping fingers crossed the campaign will take the opportunity to act on this.

Winning a state isn't very important to the campaign. That or they really don't think they have a chance to win any state and figure it would look bad to try.

Im really not holding my breath that Ron will be going to Hawaii, but you never know. Doug said they know about the article, and that it's great advice... But I also saw yesterday that on the Campaign website, they re-iterated that Ronnie Paul is campaigning in Hawaii on behalf of his dad ("REMINDER: Ronnie Paul Hits the Campaign Trail on Behalf of Dad on Saturday"). So it seems to me that they believe it's enough for Ronnie to go out there, and Ron may think that they don't need to be there all at once. I don't know, it's just speculation.
Also, it's quite possible that the campaign may not publicize some events and stops for strategy sake, so maybe Ron WILL go to HI and we'll learn about it later from local papers or something. I just hope that, if Ron himself doesn't go, that the campaign will set up some SMALL events for Ronnie and do some personal outreach, not just the big hotel event they have currently planned!

Unfortunately, I think the campaign is locked into more traditional states -- and perhaps for a reason. Maybe because those are people they can better follow up on to get to Tampa, maybe they think making sure people fly in from Guam would be more difficult, or whatever. But I have this niggling feeling Ron is basing parts of his campaign on a campaign of a different person with a more southern oriented base -- not that Ron doesn't have that, but when it comes to 'soft support' it seems easier to get from independents and others who care about the 4th amendment and habeus corpus.
